“Surprisingly lovely experience”

We were in Vermont this past weekend for a few days and decided to try out Pangaea. We were not disappointed.

The restaurant itself (we dined in the slightly more expensive part) is very well designed and a fun atmosphere. The food was really excellent. This would have gotten an excellent except that the staff, while accommodating, was not extremely well trained. Still, the food, great value for the price, was worth it. (The service wasn't "bad", just slightly off a bit when it came to timing -- but courses came out just right.)

“Surpises in North Bennington”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2008

Owned by the same couple who own Powers Market - which is located diagonally across the small town square, and whose sandwich lady recommended Pangaea for dinner after we had a most pleasant lunch in the Market (which I have reviewed seperately). Four persons ate dinner on the rear terrace of the Lounge, as we were dressed casually, and did not want to attempt the "fine dining" portion of the establishment. If the fine dining portion is as good as the Lounge, don't miss it. Food was excellent; service was good; prices were moderate and the ambience fine. I heartily recommend both Pangaea and Powers Market.

“Great experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2008

We started our vacation last night with a stay in North Bennington, VT and ate at Pangaea. One quick note: there is a fine dining restaurant and a tavern at this location. We ate in the tavern. It was a fabulous experience on all fronts. The setting was cozy and relaxed and we sat at a table in the bar area. As such our server was the bartender. He was great. Had helpful suggestions about the menu and offered terrific service and good humor. The food was GREAT--sort of upscale pub food. We had a pulled pork taco appetizer that easily could have been an entree the portion was so generous. Served with delicious guacamole and salsa. I had a salmon burger--delicious. My husband had their mac and cheese with grilled bratwurst--also delicious. For dessert we had what the menu called their "famous chocolate cake." It did not disappoint--some of the best chocolate cake I've ever had. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. And to top it all off the friendly bartender bought us a round of drinks! I can't say enough good things about our experience here--if you're in the area, it is definitely worth paying a visit.

“Not so good today”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2008

Went to eat here after being advised by the Four Chimneys restaurant (recommended) who were not doing dinner on this evening. Nice outside terrace and an almost perfect warm evening. Oh dear ...... what started out as a seemingly pleasant relaxing evening meal turned out to be quite the opposite due to bad management and surly waiting staff.

Bringing out the main course whilst we were still half way through the appetisers was greeted with looks and comments as if we weren't eating quickly enough!

When asked to take the food away and keep it warm, the waitress said she "might" be able to do it (obviously too much like hard work and seemingly she wanted to encourage us to accept leaving the food on the table). From then on it was downhill and you could cut the atmoshere ....we couldn't wait to get out!...."Fine" dining is a misnomer here.
