We stopped in for a quick lunch, and found that this classic diner has become over rated! The counter tops were worn badly, large basket of wet utensils were directly on the lunch counter, and the service was erratic and inefficient.
The diner looks like it's become a bastion of radicalism with stern women waiters who were impatient with us. The counter stools are impossibly uncomfortable, and for some reason, "specials" are simply white papers with plastic protection sheets hung haphazardly across the old steel ceiling edge. It looks chaotic!
I had a BLT, the bread was terribly dry, seemed stale, two refried pieces of thin bacon, and I had to ask for extra mayo. The chips were soggy, and the diet soda had an odd taste. Hubby had a grinder which he said was ok, but sandwich was not worth the price. I literally couldn't wait to get out of there! Bathroom was a bit funky, too, which is usually a reflection of kitchen conditions. Yikes!
We won't be back! It's a shame this Bennington landmark has hit a slump!
