A little disappointing, maybe because it was a Friday or there was a wedding celebration of some sort. They were out of prime rib...no problem.I asked the waiter if I should have the scallops or the 2 crab cakes/lobster tail (which I imagine was frozen)special. He said absolutely the scallops. There were 4 under tons of buttered crumbs...I had to look hard for them and when found, nothing special. Also the suggested twice-baked potato was tiny and cold as were the green beans. The only saving grace was the salad bar.....exceptional. The fish fry dinner was huge and good. The liver and onions was good, those who ordered it were pleased as its an unusual menu item.

“Pleasant evening”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Decent food; great views, especially from the deck and a #1 salad bar. You'll be well taken care of.

“Good Food, Excellent Service”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

We made reservations, but got there 1/2 hour early. We had to wait a minute for them to get the table ready, but then were seated right by a fireplace. It was perfect since we had spent the entire day snowshoeing. Everything we consumed was delicious, bread, salad bar, appetizers, entrees (I had the baked cod), desert. I also had the hot buttered rum, which was done perfectly (not too sweet). The service was exceptional too.

“Ultimate Vemont Dining Barn”
Reviewed December 16, 2012

Delicious food, wonderful service in the coziest Dining Room in Southern Vermont. The Publyk House is the most charming Barm dining in the Bennington area. If you are looking to have a lovely evening, with comfort food that is cooked perfectly, The Publyk House is where you would like to be. The Dining Room is decorated for Christmas and everyone should see the Patriotic Christmas Tree that is a nod to our troops. Fireplaces glowing in the middle of the room beckon you to find your table, sit back and enjoy the perfect Vermont dinner.

“The Publyk House Returns”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

My husband and I went to The Publyk House for our first date on December 4, 1982. Over the years it has changed hands and been several different restaurants with different names. The view, which is lovely, was always there, but the quality of the food was hit and miss. When we decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that first date, we discovered that it was once again called The Publyk House so we had to give it a try. We are so glad that we did. It was excellent! It has been cleaned up and beautifully decorated for the holidays. I told the hostess our first date story and when Chris, our waiter arrived at the table he informed us that our first dirinks were on the house. How very nice! The buttermilk calamari that we ordered for an appetizer was crispy and light and served with two sauces. The salad bar was very fresh and inviting and the my husband's calves liver was the best we have ever had. The portions were large and gave us plenty to take home. Unfortuneately, we had no room for desert. Maybe next time. We look forward to going back soon and will give give a gift certificate to some friends for a Christmas gift.
