“Beautiful Church”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

This is an easy stroll from the Four Chimneys Inn and well worth it. Robert Frost's grave, lovely well-maintained historic church and interesting historic markers along the iconic white fence.

“Unusually Beautiful for an Historic Church”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

The guide volunteers were welcoming and knowledgeable and when we asked one gentleman a question that stumped him, he queried his fellow guides to get the answer. A well-run and professional tour program adds so much to visiting historic sites and this church is definitely full of history, stories, and an unexpected beauty.

“What a Beautiful Historic Church!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

I arrived at a time when the church doors were locked. I saw a man working on the grounds and asked him about it. He said that the church staff had probably gone out to lunch and he offered to let my friend and I in. The inside is so beautiful! They have a table with some items for sale, including postcards. There is an old inn across the street from the church that is very picturesque. If you go to Bennington, make sure NOT to miss OLD FIRST CHURCH.

“Sacred Site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Because it was a Sunday and services were being held, we viewed the church only from the outside. And that was enough to impress us. This church exudes peace. It is beautiful.

“Beautiful - Inside & Out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

This is a lovely little church with a lot of history. The woman who was working there was happy to tell us all about the history of the church, funny things like how the men and women sat on opposite sides of the balcony and to note how the men's side was filled with old graffiti while the women's side was mostly unmarred. When we walked through, I could almost see a bunch of squirrely 10 year-olds from 150 years ago scratching their names into the pews. I’m glad that in spite of all the refurbishments and restoration work, they chose to keep the little things that add so much character and richness to the church. The cemetery is a impressive as the church. Most most go to view Robert Frost’s grave (the reason we came), but the old ornate headstones and family plots are also beautiful. We only planned to be there for a brief visit but ended up staying almost 90 minutes between the church and cemetery. Note: Go before you go – they don’t have public restrooms.
