“Delightful Central Location”

Don't judge this inn by the outside - it's set back from the road behind a closed building so we weren't sure what we had gotten into but the accomodations were more than satisfactory. We'd asked for a premium room (those are the ones with wireless access) and because I'd asked for the first floor (there are no elevators) we were given a handicapped access room. Large, clean, even tho it faced the parking lot there was a hedge between the patio and the lot so there was plenty of privacy and noise control. Coffee is available in the lobby in the morning - just a short walk to downtown Bennington. If you get a king room, be sure to ask for an extra pillow - they only give you three and they're quite soft. There's a lovely pool with a garden area in the back of the hotel. The only surprise was the size of the TV - quite small by today's standards but certainly adequate with the usual multitude of channels.

The Paradise Inn is a great place to stay. The room I had was large (even though I had an economy room) and nicely decorated; not like a hotel chain. I was impressed by how immaculate the room and bathroom were. Not only is it within easy walking distance of the downtown area, in the other direction is a lovely walk up to Old Bennington and the Bennington Monument. The Inn is set back from the road so that you don't get traffic noise (like so many other hotel/motels in the area) and there is a wonderful garden/lawn in the back by the pool. There is also a computer with complimentary Internet in the Inn lobby. I would definitely stay here again - such a nice place and such a pretty setting. Friendly staff, too!

I travel a small amount for work and never go with lodging that is not a chain. My luck has been bad with Mom and Pop operations. That being said, I found the Paradise Inn to be a pretty good hotel. The staff at the front desk was nice. I was very pleased with our Junior Suite. Very spacious with nice bedding. Even the day bed/trundle bed that were in the room got good marks from the 52 year olds that slept on each of them.

The hotel is a short walk to downtown (5-10 minutes). The return walk may be a bit tough on an elderly person due to it being a moderate grade up hill the last block or so.

Overall, I would not hesitate staying there again.

Chose this one on basis of location - easy 10 min walk to centre of town. Room bit dated, but clean and good sized. Bathroom OK and check in staff nice. Pretty garden at the back - nice pool had it been summer!

  • Liked — Great location and pretty garden
  • Disliked — No coffee / tea in rooms although they do offer it at the reception

I wish the sheets had been fitted. The sheets on our bed did not cover the mattress and by 2AM, the top of the mattress was exposed and I had to get up and remake the bed! Annoying!

The room was not vacuumed during our stay.

My review will not be a whole lot different than the other reviews, but it will reinforce some good points.

The hotel is well off of the highway, which is a positive. We did not hear any road noise at night, or outside in the pool/garden area. The restaurant building in front of the hotel is now vacant (as of 9/08), and the front of the hotel itself is not very impressive.

Add to this a lobby that looks like it is straight from the 1960s and some dreary hallways, and the initial impression is not good.

But, that's where the negatives end. The room was large, and I thought attractively furnished. We stayed in the North building. There was a small patio, which led directly to the pool and garden area. Both are very attractive. The garden area has a large lawn big enough to let kids run around a bit. There is a nice gazebo and hammock available, as well as a tennis court. All very nicely landscaped and quiet. Very peaceful.

There is no free breakfast; there is a small cafe (The Bean and Leaf Cafe) on the grounds which I thought was perfectly fine if all you want for breakfast is a muffin and a cup of coffee. If you want ham and eggs with breakfast potatoes and pancakes and the whole nine yards, you'll have to go out.

Someone mentioned that it's a bit of a walk to the Bennington Monument. We did walk to the Bennington Monument, and on a nice day it's a pleasant walk indeed. We stopped at the Bennington Museum as well (it's closer to the hotel). Well worth the price if you like museums; I especially liked the permanent Grandma Moses exhibit. So, there are things to walk to if you are a walker.

We also walked the opposite direction, into town, for meals. The downtown is small, but a safe and pleasant walk. I would say the restaurant choices overall were OK plus, but not fantastic.

Overall, our group thought that the Paradise Inn was a very good choice.

Tip: If you can, stay in the North Building, on the first floor, facing the pool. You have direct access to the grounds and the pool from your patio. If you're more of a second floor person, the North Building second floor, facing the pool, has balconies. This is of course more important in the summer, which is the time of year I think you get the most out of this hotel.

The folks running this hotel were nice. The lobby is nice. The garden and the pool are immaculate. You can walk to nearby restaurants and a couple of the local attractions.

Could improve a little on the housekeeping, just in terms of cleaning the shower daily. Otherwise, a pretty good little hotel that's priced right.

I also liked that they provide you with an option or two to help them conserve energy, e.g. Do you want linens changed daily? New towels daily?

  • Liked — Nice, convenient, affordable, quiet
  • Disliked — Shower floor needs cleaning
