The cemetary requires that monuments be made of Vermont granite, and (apparently) encourages originality. One of my favorites was actually a pair of four-sided pyramids with writing on the four faces of each ("see side 3 of my wife's stone for a description of heaven"). Everything from a biplane to a car on a pedestal to a cube balanced on its point. The inscriptions are moving, from the beloved wife and mother to the young life cut off too soon. I came away feeling as though I had been able to share some of the personalities who are buried there.
