“A really nice find.”
Reviewed October 3, 2011

Very nice owners who have been there for over 40 years. The rooms are roomy the bathroom a bit small but it all works. The price was right and it is a very retro feel to it. My grandparents ran small motels in the 60's and 70's and this brought back a lot of memories.

If you are looking for a "hotel" you aren't going to find it here. You are going for comfort and price and a great place this won't let you down.

Eat up the street at Wayside for a meal in a restaurant that has been around forever and a good meal.

We spent a week here while visiting family in Montpelier. We were more than satisfied. The price was excellent, the accommodations comfortable and the management welcoming and helpful. This is not a "modern" motel but rather a period piece that is maintained and operated to a very high standard. Our room was extremely well suited to our visit and our needs. Refrigerator and microwave were provided as was a small couch and a new flat-screen TV. The bathroom was small but perfectly useful and immaculate, as was the rest of the room. We come to Montpelier regularly and are happy to have found the Twin City as it's now our new favorite place to stay in the area.

Room Tip: Motel rooms are best value. Cottages are cheaper and pretty basic, but very clean and well kept.

We were driving to Montpelier and looking for a place to stay. It was nearing 10 PM and places of any sort were few and far between (remember this if you're in the area!) Read about Twin City and decided to give it a shot. The reviews are right on. The desk clerk was very courteous and welcoming. The rooms are individual cottages and are extremely small. I would guess 200 square feet might be generous. It was also very clean and reasonably priced. If you're just looking for a place to lay your head at night give this one a try.

(Important! Do NOT use a Garmin GPS to find the physical street address - it led us to the other side of the town for many miles to the middle of nowhere. The desk clerk said it happens all the time with that brand. Better to just find the name of the motel in the GPS directory or just get directions with Google maps from off the highway.)

We traveled a few hours to see a Ben & Jerry's concert on the green in Shelburne, VT and we picked this hotel after checking out the (hilariously horrible) reviews of the Barre Days Inn. Seriously, if you want to roll around laughing, go read. Then book a room at the Twin City. Unlike the purported Days Inn of Barre horror movie experience, the Twin City was DELIGHTFUL! The desk staff person was friendly and happy and wished us no rain for the concert. The room was #21, so it was down a ways from the front office and one of the rooms that has a nice private front porch hidden by large evergreen trees (book rooms 20 or higher to get one of these). The hotel was completely full that night, but we never heard a thing from neighboring guests. The room was clean and well-furnished - so cute with very retro-looking style. The bathroom was nice as well, though we didn't have occasion to use the tub/shower. The best detail: a wall-mounted bottle opener in the bathroom. Why?? Who knows! But charming and unique. Run a bath, reach over and crack open a bottle of beer, relax! This hotel is seriously vintage, but NOT run down in any way. It's cozy and old-timey and relatively close to Burlington or at least on the way back down to the NH area. If you're passing through this neck of the woods, make a point to stay at the Twin City!!

Room Tip: For more private entrances with tree-hidden front porch, book rooms 20 or higher.

The owners are very friendly. The rooms are very clean I actually waliked barefoot on the carpet. The rooms have a retro apperance but modern appliances. Coffee is available in the office and its a quick walk. The grounds are well kept.

We will be back the next time we are in the area.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to have the same views

This motel is something right out of the 60's or 70's... the owners are very nice and very accomodating people. The high speed internet or wi-fi was not very fast but doable. The bed was very comfortable and the big screen flat screen tv with all the channels was a bonus. The bathroom was dated but very clean and the shower was pretty good over all. I would definitely stay here again. Was very pleasantly surprised... thanks.

I recommend the Twin City Motel to travelers in the Montpelier, VT area. It is neat and clean with a good feeling from the attentive onsite owners. This is not a fancy place nor is it in a scenic location. But the room was quite serviceable for a couple. The bed was comfortable, the lighting good, and the TV a new HD flatscreen and plenty of channels to choose from, enough outlets for two laptops and two phone chargers. Good, strong shower, too.

Small refrigerator and microwave oven were both helpful for storing than heating the leftovers we brought back from the nearby Wayside Diner ( a classic American diner that is not to be missed and only a minute away from the motel).

The rooms on both sides of ours were occupied but did not hear our neighbors and, presumably they didn't hear us.

Only negative in our experience was not getting strong wifi signal in our room. Had to step outside to go online, but that was okay, as bench right outside the door was comfortable and signal there was strong.
