My wife and another couple ate in the Tavern before a show in Woodstock. Wonderful meal. We had spinach salads (VG and large) and chicken Wienerschnitzel (2), filet mignon steak and a curry seafood (shrimp, clams, mussels). Everything was presented and delicious. Owner gave us great service and in plenty of time for the show. A highly recommended pleasure. Many locals were in attendance. We'll be back. The more formal Inn part of the restaurant has a fixed price menu - see their website.

While in Vermont we always make it a point to stop by the Barnard Inn (Max's Tavern) for dinner. The chef always has specials with local sourced meats and veggies grown right on the property and there is a wide selection of beers and wines. One will not leave this restaurant hungry and you will be oh so satisfied with your meals.

Good food, pleasant servers in the tavern. All menu choices seemed freshly prepared and seasonal - pumpkin soup, pork loin with apples, pastas with interesting sauces, selection of local beers and cider. We felt welcomed and relaxed - so much so that we ate here two nights while staying in the area.

We ate in the "Tavern" section instead of the formal dining room. Menu was the same but allowed for ala carte ordering instead of the prix fixe. We ate in 4 restaurants in and around Barnard (including the Prince & the Pauper and Simon Pearce) and the Barnard Inn was the best of all of them.

The food here was very good and the service was excellent. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The restaurant gets very busy so you need to book. We felt it was good value for money and a convenient local place to eat as we were staying nearby at the Maple Leaf Inn.
