What a lovely stay! The well-loved & cared-for house tells a fantastic story of its family - adventurous & urbane academics who came back to recharge every Summer in a quintessentially serene Vermont village.
Bring your yoga mat, bathing suit, hiking shoes and a love of napping to this bright, cozy lake home.
Very nice accommodations, well-appointed kitchen and only 10 minutes from Woodstock. I'll be back in the Fall!
Stayed for a long weekend in Barnard on Sliver Lake and enjoyed this well appointed home directly on the water. The lake was really clean because there are no motor boats or jet skis. Got in for a swim and it was perfect. Just a short walk to the general store for supplies (kinda expensive but convenient). Its just a short drive to Woodstock and hiking is close by.
Owner does have all the necessary items on hand including kayaks. Ample space for friends and or family.
Really nice spot. We will definitely return.
This Barnard lakeside home is rich in warmth & academic memorabilia as befits the former summer home of two reknowned India scholars. The ample great room with large stone fireplace and comfy sectional make for a welcomed center of activity & conversation. Adjacent to the great room, the informal dining area with its expansive views of Silver Lake reinforce the connection to the beautiful Vermont landscape. The charming bedrooms and ample kitchen complete the entire experience.
Renting the additional downstairs living space with sauna, family room kitchenette and extra bedroom made for an ample setting for a large group weekend gathering.
We had a wonderful weekend stay at this cozy cottage by the lake. There’s a huge sectional sofa in the living room that provides comfortable seating for gazing into the fire. The long enclosed porch on the lake side of the house has windows along the entire length and the view over the lake is beautiful. I’m an early riser and I loved watching the fog shift in the morning and give way to sunlit trees while sipping my morning tea. I stayed in the bedroom on the main floor and the bed was very comfortable. We brought groceries with us so we cooked all our meals in the well-appointed kitchen. The cottage is just a stone’s throw from the center of the village with a charming general store that is well stocked and has a very friendly staff. This would be a great base for exploring the area, including Woodstock and all it has to offer, and in summer the lake would provide opportunities for swimming and boating to explore the shore.
The Lakeside house is lovely! Views across the water (in April), directly from the living space make staying inside as good as being outside. The rooms are decorated with books and photos that make you feel like you’re staying in the house of a super-artistic and creative Aunt or Uncle. With plenty of room to spread out and bedrooms that felt private, it would be a good place for either a couple or a large family/group. Main level has a beautiful bedroom and bath. Upstairs (careful-they are steep), are more bedrooms and an outstanding claw-foot tub in the bathroom. Driveway can park about 6 cars off street and the General store is just a short walk away. Would love to come back when the lake is ice free and the weather is warm. It would be a totally different kind of vacation. Highly recommend for a relaxing get-away in VT!
Snuggling up with family & dear friends in front of the large stone fireplace; playing board games; listening to your favorite tunes; lingering after a yummy meal to engage in real conversation; laughing the way you do with people you love but seldom do for whatever reason; walking in the woods then taking a cat nap; simply being.
