“I DON'T GET THE LURE OF IT -- BUT IT WAS FUN AND FREE!”
Reviewed June 3, 2011

Sometimes there is just something so idiotic that you absolutely have to partake in it! That would be the Bonneville Salt Flats. You drive your car on a solid salt lake - why, I really don't know. But, of course, I had to do it. There's not much to say -- you just speed around on the solid salt. It was really kind of fun and I was glad I went to see it when I was passing through Wendover.

If you find yourself anywhere near here, go see it.

p.s. BE SURE to wash your car several times after you leave, especially under the wheels. The salt gets into the undercarriage of your car. Even after 1 or 2 washings, salt was still pouring out.

“"The Fastest Place On Earth"”
Reviewed April 23, 2009

The Bonneville Salt Flats has been a site for land speed racing since the Thirties. It has miles of hard, white, salt-- a perfect surface for driving a car as fast as it will go. Some wheel- driven cars have topped 450mph! The landscape is so flat and expansive that you can actually see the curvature of the earth.
Speed Week is held every August; it is popular with racers and car enthusiasts--500 cars have run there the last few years. There are no grandstands, no big prize money, just racers out there having fun and going fast. This is the way racing used to be.
