“Trip into the Past”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

My kids were NOT excited to see ancient Indian petroglyphs--who wants to see pictures scratched into rocks when you can watch Cartoon Network? Well, I dragged them away from the hotel pool and tv for this activity. In the end, they were very excited.

McConkie Ranch is located out of Vernal--about 20 minutes. The hike is not "hard" but I would not take anyone who is not a good hiker because the trail has shale rock and places you need to climb over rocks.

When my kids saw the first petroglyph, they were hooked. The experience was fabulous. Thank you to the family for opening up their land to strangers and allowing us to have this experience.

“The Best”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Although you have to be part tourist and part mountain goat to see the petroglyphs--not really. But there are some areas that are a bit steep and you have to be ready to climb. But the quantity and diversity of the artwork is well worht it. Make sure you visit this place!!

“Do not give up if you do not find the main panel right away ...”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

As another couple did. Keep on searching, you will be richly rewarded.
Initially we thought what a waste of time, but upon more searching we found the main panel. What a site to see; bear hunt, figures with head ornaments, big feet, some faded, yet stunningly beautiful after all these centuries. And so close to Vernal.

“Incredible Fremont Site”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

If you are in the area, this is a feature not to miss. The site is located on private property and is currently open to respectful public viewers. The hike along the cliff face is about medium difficulty...but younger children should be able to make it too but you need to watch them - no guardrails in nature. The first part up to the cliff face is the most difficult. These petroglyphs are first rate especially toward the end of the day when the light is best for these. The owners even have drinks available on the honor system when you hike is over.

Fantastic place, incredible rock art. Hike the trails both ways. Don't touch the rock art!! Great near the end of the day in the late light.
