“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed January 1, 2010

We got to stay at the Cliff lodge via a friend of ours timeshare, and could not be happier with it. The location is perfect, as you can ski right out onto the mountain. The locker room is a great amenity so you don't have to bring your skis and boots up to your room with you. The rooms themselves are very spacious with nice views, though as people have mentioned a little dated. We ate at both the lounge on the top floor and the mexican place, and we were happy with both. The skiing is great, though if you are a a skier, it is worth looking into going to Alta for a few days. Overall we were very pleased, and would recommend it to anybody.

We got a very good price for thanksgiving of this year. We loved the ski lockers that dry your things overnight. The valet guys were always very nice and helpful. Front desk was so-so. Room was very nice, liked the picture window in the bathroom. All the views are great because it is a beautiful area. Our one real problem was the food, everywhere at snowbird it was terrible (chanate was the worst), even though the service was great. The food was definitely trucked in and very little homemade, what a shame in such a beautiful place and with such nice designs and interiors. Skiing here is a bit steep and we prefer to get the pass that allows us to go to alta to ski, but i think it is a great place to stay!

I was here when I was pregnant and my husband absolutely loved the whole place cos he's a snowboarder. But the altitude left me a bit breathless and the spa was not the best, it needs updating and looks kinda seventies. The view out of the windows in the lounge area was great, and also in our room. The thing to keep in mind is that this resort was built to stay up during avalanches so it's very concrete and cold/sterile looking in a way. I thought they could have done better with the furnishings, everything looked pretty beat up, especially in the bathroom. I was thinking that the window that looked into the room from the shower, would be great for watching a baby if we had one then haha. The sushi was decent in the restaurant and the breakfast buffet is worth it, there is nothing stupendous though, it's really a haven for snowboarders.

The rooms were large and furnishing were OK, there was a safe. 36" flat screen TV but NO HDTV. The room was noisy with outside activities and we were on the 5th floor.

A very peculiar picture window in the shower that looks into the room.!?!

The hotel common areas to include the hallways are very spartan, in fact some of the are just cement.

Granted it is predominately a ski lodge, so any exterior niceties would be fair game to tired and drunk people lugging long skis.

Off season you can take several different lifts up the mountains and then hike around.

I was most disappointed with the food--taste and price. The food at the Aerie Restaurant was beautiful, but tasted ordinary, not worth the price, and not enough choices on the menu. Atrium brunch food was cold and should have been better. The room probably would have been better if one with a balcony was offered to us, which it was not. But the spa was good; can't beat the beautiful mountain views.

Big rooms, as you often get with US hotels. But slightly dated and drab. The mexican restaurant isn't bad, and seems much better value than the others. Not a particularly cheap hotel, so overall doesn't score highly on value, but it's not a rip-off.

Not exactly what I was expecting in a ski resort. No walls of windows to take in the mountain views, lots of exposed concrete walls, very little natural light, etc., but since it is in an avalanche area that's understandable. Stayed here for a sales meeting, so I don't know what the room rate was. Rooms seemed recently updated and have very comfortable beds. I had no problems with the in-room wireless Internet.

The main drawback would be that unlike other ski areas such as Park City, Tahoe, etc, there is really no "escape" from the resort. You're pretty much locked in unless you want to drive. Food at the on-site restaurants was OK, but not worth the price. Staff was friendly and helpful, although as noted in several other reviews, the facility could use better signage. Very confusing layout. Nice workout facility and pool area.

I'm not a skiier, so the benefits of incredible slopes and a short trip to a major airport probably make up for the negatives.
