We last stayed over New Years 2013. Couldn't leave town so I booked 4 nights at the Cliff Lodge for fun. We had a "corner room" with a king bed, large pull out couch, microwave, mini fridge, table and chairs. It was HUGE compaired to the normal 2 queen accommodations. One wall was all windows facing the mountain. Beautiful! We have stayed at most of the lodges up here. To me- the Cliff Lodge is the most updated of the lodging options AT Snowbird. All of the on mountain lodging options up here are older but some are much more updated than others. I really like the convenience of being on the mountain. Right out the door was the chickadee lift (beginners) where I skied with my 3 year old. When he got frustrated or tired we went in for a short break. It made it so easy for me and him!! No long treks in ski boots and shuttles rides that are such a pain with 2 toddlers and all their equipment. Plenty of dining options within walking distance. Hot tubs were great. This resort also has a separate adult only pool and hot tub attached to the cliff spa. I have always experienced great service every time we have stayed at any of the lodges.
The air is always so dry but they will provide you with humidifiers for your room. The indoor ski lockers were cramped with the boards and skis. Overall it was perfect for us! Just remember that this is not more extravagant/luxurious like Deer Valley but the price and accommodations reflect that. However, to some people this might be pretty pricey for an older hotel. There are lots of hotel options in Salt Lake Valley. Just take into account that you will be driving up and down a canyon road in possibly snowy conditions. About 30 minutes each way in good weather. There is a new hotel right at the mouth of big cottonwood canyon, if the drive doesn't bother you.

FYI- My boys have been taking all day lessons at the Snowbird ski school for several years now. It is fantastic!! I have never had a bad experience with the Snowbird ski school- I cannot say that about all the ski schools we have tried!

we travel a lot and have NEVER encountered a hotel that won't at least give a credit for a future stay when travel plans go awry due to a blizzard. we could not get a flight out of nyc on Saturday to SLC. it was impossible to get thru to delta for hours to try and re-sched a flight later that day and it turns out there were no flights for the entire day anyhow. there were no flights until Tuesday. BUT the cliff lodge would not give a credit for the pre-paid three nights so we could arrive on Tuesday and use the 3 nights at that time. yes, we did book thru orbitz, and yes we could have opted for travel insurance but unfortunately did not assuming that if we were going to cancel we would have known 24 hours before. we had until 12:01 am on sat morning to cancel and delta sent us an email cancelling the flight at 12:20 am...so we didn't rebook to leave on Tuesday due to the fact that the cliff lodge would not let us re-sched our 3 nights accordingly. it's just bad business to not try to accommodate customers who are being affected by flight cancellations! so obviously we will never stay at the cliff lodge again and will not recommend it to anyone.

The Cliff Lodge is resting on its laurels. If it wasn't located up Little Cottonwood Canyon, surrounded by the most stunning scenery, and unparalleled skiing, it would have a hard time filling rooms. We spent a night in early December and we vowed never to return. The bed had the same sway you'd expect to find in a hammock (not talking swaying in the breeze) and about the same amount of support. In the morning, after we'd finished with the bathroom, we all had to endure the after-effects for too long given the absence of an exhaust fan.

Now, the noise. Holy cow. The people next door surely had fun; we did not sleep. I called them directly first and they were quiet for a few minutes. We ended up having to call the front desk to send someone up to quiet them. So, yeah. Not a great time. Not planning on returning.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the mountain, ask for it.

From the valet parking when you arrive, the early check-in at 9 am to any requests for the room or food service was excellent. The location its perfect with ski in and out or a short walk off you don't want the wait for the chickadee lift which was often busy at the end of the day. Easy walking to the main centre. Room was fine. Small fridge, decent tv and beds. Bathroom was dated. Great ski lockers with boot drying system. Do ski over to Alta while you are there, free shuttle back off you are too late to ski back. Only downside was the hotel was pretty dead. It was Christmas and would have been nice to have some Christmas activities at the hotel; thought the Christmas eve torch light display and fireworks were great.

In a timeshare condo with family and friends. The staff was very accommodating with extra towels, adding an extra room, extended checkout, and everything we asked for. We were treated like queens at the spa--robes, slippers and all the amenities of a world class health club and spa. Limited days at the Restaurants were disappointing. The Steak Pit was closed the first night we wanted to eat out, and the next night reservations were booked. Ski in ski out via Chikadee lift. Nice pools and game room. Shooting for avalanche early in the mornings so don't stay up late at night.
