Lodge at Snowbird

Snowbird is one of my favorite places to stay at. It is beautiful and the property is well kept. They have done a bang up job on ensuring their practices are sustainable, they were green before being green was cool. The forest there is really, really healthy, esp. coming from Colorado. We've been going there on and off in the summer for sixteen years and it's just as beautiful as it was sixteen years ago. The rooms are nice, the views great. The staff at the restaurants are nice. They have updated their rooms over the years and they are up to date- rooms have a nice flatscreen TV and all rooms have a DVD player, there are also CD players by the bed.

The reason I give it a four instead of a five was because we had some minor problems this trip. First we were given the wrong room. Second, we had a HECK of a time getting our keys to work- it took at least three times each time to get IN our room. Third, there were two lamps in the room that didn't work. Usually Snowbird is on top of these things- not sure what is going on. They did have a MAJOR bike event the day before and were sold out (on a Wednesday night in July).

There are more people here in the summer than there used to be, there are more attractions for kids too- a motorized zip line, a slide, and some other things.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is facing the ski slope. There are also rooms that are king suites that are very...

The only reason why I don't give this 5 points is because it is a place for recreation, not crazy pampering. It is a great place for a ski vacation -- comfortable, easy to navigate and full of helpful people, at hotel and on slope.

Met family for an extended weekend. Place was clean, really my sole requirement. Staff was FRIENDLY! HELPFUL! It is sad that that was so notable, but definitely not what I am used to in a place like this. Location is great and lockers make this place an ideal place for a ski trip. To save money, we cooked ahead and ate in for most meals. Cookware, while clean, isn't up to much more than heating frozen foods, and really don't think one should expect more. It was certainly adequate.

They have a pay laundry so you don't have to overpack!
Plenty of space in our loft suite to hang gear to dry out. Lots of storage -- never felt cramped!

This next bit is meant as more of a tip than a complaint. Understand first our background. We have lived at sea level all our lives and this might be the highest elevation we've spent time at, ever. In winter, at elevation, LOWER the heat and USE THE HUMIDIFIER that they provide! Absolutely a lesson we wish we'd known prior to check in. I didn't ask staff for help, but a Utah skier clued me in and I am SO thankful for the information, as we were pretty uncomfortable at outsetl

We were very impressed with our whole experience at the Lodge at Snowbird. From the Concierge to the Front desk staff and the variety of food on offer, nothing was too much trouble. There was immediate access to our room on arrival and they even turned on some powder falling just in time for our first day. The Lodge room was in keeping with the period of the hotel and was in easy access of the Snowbird Centre/lifts/rentals and more food.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to face the mountain, but it is always best to check.

Decided to post a review as nit many recent reviews for this place Staying lodge for one week. Stayed in standard hotel room with one king one queen. Apparently time share so unsure about consistency between rooms. Our room had mini fridge, second sink outside bathroom, lots of drawers hooks hanging space, large flat screen TV blue ray DVD. Large balcony but no furniture but I simply moved desk chair to sit outside for a bit. Spectaular view of mountain. Able to check in early before noon. First room had 2 queens on 2nd floor. Went back to ask for king and easily moved to 5th floor with even better view. Housekeeping excellent room well stocked with towels, clean, cookies, mints, etc. Rooms a little dated but apparently so are other rooms in other Snowbird lodges. Carpet in room appears relatively new. The lodge is much smaller than the cliff and has a more intimate vibe. Front desk very helpful. Valet even took hubby to alta in mornings. Other option is city bus which is free and apparently comes by every 10 min and convenient I'm told. He would just ski back end of day thru alta-snowbird connection. Free coffee tea hot chocolate newspapers in lobby (though would have preferred coffee maker in room). Lifts not crowded at all but likely due to low snow falls this year like everywhere else. Small but adequate workout area: 2 bikes, elliptical, treadmill, universal. No free weights. But a better deal than over at cliff lodge where even those guests have to pay $25/day to use workout facilities which is part of new spa. I toured new spa very nice but didn't get any services due to pricing.

One restaurant in Lodge building itself and only continentl breakfast offered in the AM. Central location for short outside walk to other buildings, restaurants, tram, lifts via Snowbird center. I believe they still consider this ski in ski out even though you have to walk across pathway to snowbird center. They have free ski lockers on ground floor of hotel but we chose to use free ski valet at snowbird center and would only have to walk over in ski boots without lugging skis poles back and forth every day.

Oddly enough you have to walk across chickadee slope to get to the Cliff lodge but since it's a beginner slope not too treacherous. Apparently you can call for free snowbird shuttle to take you from building to building but we just chose to walk because not more than 5 minutes either direction.

New Aerie restaurant excellent food, great dinner service, wonderful views. Great sushi bar as well. Big breakfast buffet.

No room service available at Lodge itself. If they had a toaster and coffee maker would have been nice. General Gritts is small grocery type store with deli etc.

Overall certainly not the fanciest hotel I've stayed out but you are paying for location and room was more than adequate and very clean.

We stayed on the spa level during christmas and new years. The pool and hot tub were cool but spending 540 a night didn't justify it. I would suggest staying in salt lake city at a nice hotel for $200-250 for a nice room and drive up the mountain. The drive is amazing anyways. Unless you can get a good week rate it was nothing special for the price. Small tub room average, and it was there second to best room.

My husband and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend to relax and get away from the heat in the valley. We were able to check in early, asked and received a room on a high floor (for a better view of the mountain) and received excellent service. The only issue with the room was there was no table for our drinks on the balcony, so I called the front desk, and they sent someone right up with the table. Beds were comfortable, and room had everyone we needed. There was a DVD player with flat-screen TV, but we didn't watch. We enjoyed the view and the fresh air on our balcony. Stellar Jays, the blue birds with black head, were bountiful. Loved watching them fly about. Although we stayed here during Oktoberfest, we couldn't hear the festivities in our room. Keep in mind this is a condo/timeshare, but there are no salesmen trying to sell you a timeshare. One thing my husband was disappointed in was no coffee maker in room and no room service, but the front desk told us there was free coffee in the lobby in the mornings. All in all, a very good stay. When we asked for late checkout, 1pm, they told us no problem. All in all, a very good stay, and pretty good rate that included one night's stay with free breakfast for two at a restaurant on the Plaza or at Cliff Lodge, and a free tram/chair lift ride person. Also enjoyed the spa at the Cliff Lodge, for massage, mani and pedi. Try It.
