Carvers Steaks & Chops

Add to trip

Food was excellent and service was very good. Our table was not very private as it was set up right in front of the fireplace since it was warm weather and there would be no fire. However, it seemed to place us somewhat on display in the otherwise more intimate setting of the room.

“Subpar All Around”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

We went to Carvers on a Friday night with a group of friends. We were looking forward to a good steak in the Sandy area, and someone had suggested Carvers. Big mistake. When we want steak, we usually eat at Spencer's, Ruth's, Prime, or Flemings, and while Carvers is trying to provide the upscale dining experience, it falls horribly short.
We started with cocktails, but their bar was horribly supplied. They have the minimum required to make a limited number of drinks. We tried to order two bottles of wine. They didn't have them, although they are on the list. We tried again with two more; again, we couldn't get what we wanted. Please! We wanted something better than Seven Deadly.... We finally ended up with 4 bottles of the same wine, because they literally didn't have the other 3 bottles we wanted in order to diversify the wine selection.
Appetizers were just okay. The calamari presentation was messy. The caprese was lacking in flavor. The crab cakes were good, and my husband enjoyed the cajun lamb chops. The chowder was runny and oversalted.
For the entrees, I ordered the 16oz rib eye, medium rare. A large (unacceptably large) portion of my steak was tendony, and with the dull steak knives we were supplied, I was literally unable to cut or eat my steak. My husband had the Kansas Strip, Medium. All of the steaks at the table were overcooked!
We also ordered full sized lobster tails to accompany our meals, because the add-on lobster tail would have been too small, and assuredly too dry. In essence, we bought 12 full entrees for the 8 of us. Sadly, the lobster was chewy, with a weird aftertaste. Definitely not worth the money we paid.
The service was lacking. I had to ask the waitress for bread 3 times, a box 3 times, and she managed to only wrap up part of our meal.

Moral of the story: Never again. Please save you money or go elsewhere.

“Nice upscale dinner during a 6 day roadtrip”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

We chose Carvers based on a recommendation from the Best Western. It was walking distance and after multiple days on the road, a very nice change for dinner. The service was excellent. Our waiter had just returned from Spain the night before but did not seem jet lagged. The wine list interesting and reasonably priced. We both had fish, the ahi tuna and the salmon. Both were perfectly prepared. The restaurant is a bit dark, but that adds to the ambience.

“Affordable Steak House”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Carvers is a good place to get a relatively affordable meal. They have typical Steakhouse food and a nice wine list. Also a varried dessert menu.
I ordered the ribeye medium rare and it was well prepared. Soup or salad plus one side are included in the price of the meal. Reccomend.
