“Great Location for Skiing, Terrible Service”
Reviewed April 3, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Summerfield Suites for a weekend ski trip. We selected this hotel for several reasons. #1 It is new...I like new...and it had down comforters. #2 The location was great for skiing (Snow Bird, Alta, Solitude, Brighton). #3 The hotel was a great value because the rate included 2 lift tickets per night. All 3 reasons were met by the hotel so I should really not have any complaints. (Plus they had free b-fast buffets every morning.)

However, there were a few drawbacks. #1 You have to drive to the "Park & Ride" to catch the public bus up to the ski resorts. The hotel had a courtesy shuttle van, but we did not want to be waiting for it after a day of skiing. (You can also drive directly up to the ski resorts - about 30 minutes.) #2 The hotel staff had ZERO knowledge about the ski resorts and ski conditions. For a hotel catering to skiers, the staff was totally UN-helpful when it came to answering basic questions (choosing resorts, terrain, conditions, rentals, directions to Park & Ride). #3 The hotel does not provide daily room service - at least this is what we were told when we came back after our first day and found our room not made up. To make matters worse, the money I left as a tip for room service was gone. When I called the front desk, I was told rooms are only made up every 3 days. I asked the person on the phone if that were the case, why then would housekeeping come into our room since we were not due for service? He had no comment. Clearly, the hotel has a problem with its housekeeping crew - I consider it theft to take the tip without providing any service. The worse part is that someone came into our room with the intention of stealing. After that first day, we kept a "Do Not Disturb" tag on our door - we did not want anyone entering our room.

I don't want the negatives to outweigh the positives. We had a great time skiing - snow conditions were awesome. And we also were able to go out at night to the Megaplex (less than a mile away), and see movies - plus eat at good places. We hate the overpriced and crowded restaurants at most ski villages - that is why we chose to stay at this more "suburban" area (Sandy, UT). It felt like we were having dinner out at home in suburbia. But the awesome thing was that we were half an hour away from a total ski getaway.

We loved this hotel. The Trio 2 bedroom suites are almost 1000 square feet. Beautifully designed and decorated. The location is great. 20 minutes from Snowbird and Solitude.
Minutes from many restaurants and shopping centers. The free shuttle can take you anywhere within 5 miles and Michelle the driver was fabulous. Josh Pepper, one of the managers was amazing. We had a small problem with the housekeeping staff and he fixed it immediately. The pool was the perfect temperature and spotlessly clean. The free full breakfast was as good as expected but the "social hour" was a pleasant surprise. It was borderline a full meal. Complete with wine and beer. It is only 4 days a week but we stayed a full week so we enjoyed it 4 times. The laundry room has 3 washers and 6 dryers. The dryers were having some mechanical issues but once resolved it was great to have the option to wash clothes. It's right on the freeway but we didn't hear the cars at all. We weren't right in the front but we weren't way in the back either. There is also a beautiful fireplace and an outdoor grill if you want to BBQ. Great place!

Excellent hotel. Rooms are just like shown on their website, very clean and modern, with all the conveniences of a condo - separate bedroom, fully stocked kitchen, 2 TVs, DVD player, etc. Heated pool and hot tub outside was great after skiing all day. Stayed there for 3 days and there was a different breakfast every morning, all very tasty with Starbucks coffee brewed and a variety of fresh juices. We really loved our stay and were looking forward to coming back to the hotel after the slopes. Great location - close to multiple skiing resorts (we went to Alta and Solitutde), and a huge SkinSee skiing rental is nearby together with all the shops and supermarkets. Free internet in rooms and in lobby, even has a printer that you can use to print directions or whatever you want. Never staying at any other hotel in Salt Lake again, this place is perfect.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a week for the puroposes of skiing nearby Snowbird/Alta resorts. The hotel is handily located to these resorts but is in a fairly bleak area overlloking a huge freeway and industrial buildings. The rooms are new and clean the the heating.air con is terrible, very old fashioned syetem with a loud compressor in your room and its so loud half the time youd rather just have a cold room. Radiators for heating would have been more sensible. There was no hot water for several days of my stay but I think this was just teething problems, still its failry poor service. The included breakfast is OK but was usually late getting started adn the cooked items were cheap pre mix scrambled eggs, packaged french toast, sometimes bacon and some strange mince which looked like pet food. The evening drinks is not much better as its not really free because they cahrge more for these nights. Its usally just some salad which was fine, some cheap chilli and maybe another cheap nasty hot item. Free soft drinks, miller light and cheap wine are available too. The front desk staff were helpful with ski passes ect but the place is a bit of a mess as i guess the staff are new. I wouldnt stay here again on a vacation as it feels a bit too holiday inn business salesmen type place. Then again it was better than paying three times the price up at the slopes. The park city marriot which i also stayed at on the same trip was a much more pleasant experience. Sandy area has a lot of shops and ski rental close by but most resturants i found were your avergae american style chain ones which werent that impressive. I would try to stay a little further uo toward the canyon if you are on a ski trip as this place certainly has no charm.

My bf and I stayed here for a week for a snowboarding trip. We had a very good experience here and we are seriously considering staying here next year if we do another snowboarding trip.

The property is brand new and so everything is clean. The rooms are nicely decorated with granite countertops, flat screen tv's, comfotable couches, etc. The hotel pictures you see on Expedia are a pretty accurate representation of what you will get at this hotel. The kitchen comes with microwave, stovetop, and dishwasher plus utensils, plates, cups, strainer, cheese grater, etc. We were able to cook most of our food during our stay which helped us save a lot of money. However, the pans that they have there are made from aluminum and they stick so buy butter to prevent burning the food which we did the first night. Also they have complimentary breakfast and dinner (M-Th) which were very good and there was a good selection of food. The breakfast really saved us time and money so that we can get up to the slopes quickly.

Since the hotel is so new, they still don't have enough staff on the premises. We had a bit of a problem with the complementary hotel shuttle due to this since they don't have a designated driver yet. If you plan to use the hotel shuttle I would recommend that you tell them ahead of time so they can find someone who is free to drive you around. If they couldn't find someone and we missed the skibus up to the slopes they were very accomodating and dropped us off at bus stops that had more buses and were out of their 5 mile radius. Also since the driver of the shuttle was anyone who was free at the hotel we were able to meet a lot of the staff that we would not normally be able to meet. I'm sure as they hire more people the shuttle would become more consistent.

The property also sells the superpass on their premise so if you forgot to buy one or decide to go skiing, it is very convenient since you can just get it there on that day you are thinking of going. The front desk was also very helpful and courteous. The staff made sure we had a wonderful stay and everyone was smiling and nice.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. For the price it is a steal.
