My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Summerfield Suites for a weekend ski trip. We selected this hotel for several reasons. #1 It is new...I like new...and it had down comforters. #2 The location was great for skiing (Snow Bird, Alta, Solitude, Brighton). #3 The hotel was a great value because the rate included 2 lift tickets per night. All 3 reasons were met by the hotel so I should really not have any complaints. (Plus they had free b-fast buffets every morning.)
However, there were a few drawbacks. #1 You have to drive to the "Park & Ride" to catch the public bus up to the ski resorts. The hotel had a courtesy shuttle van, but we did not want to be waiting for it after a day of skiing. (You can also drive directly up to the ski resorts - about 30 minutes.) #2 The hotel staff had ZERO knowledge about the ski resorts and ski conditions. For a hotel catering to skiers, the staff was totally UN-helpful when it came to answering basic questions (choosing resorts, terrain, conditions, rentals, directions to Park & Ride). #3 The hotel does not provide daily room service - at least this is what we were told when we came back after our first day and found our room not made up. To make matters worse, the money I left as a tip for room service was gone. When I called the front desk, I was told rooms are only made up every 3 days. I asked the person on the phone if that were the case, why then would housekeeping come into our room since we were not due for service? He had no comment. Clearly, the hotel has a problem with its housekeeping crew - I consider it theft to take the tip without providing any service. The worse part is that someone came into our room with the intention of stealing. After that first day, we kept a "Do Not Disturb" tag on our door - we did not want anyone entering our room.
I don't want the negatives to outweigh the positives. We had a great time skiing - snow conditions were awesome. And we also were able to go out at night to the Megaplex (less than a mile away), and see movies - plus eat at good places. We hate the overpriced and crowded restaurants at most ski villages - that is why we chose to stay at this more "suburban" area (Sandy, UT). It felt like we were having dinner out at home in suburbia. But the awesome thing was that we were half an hour away from a total ski getaway.
