“Great for Business Travelers”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

I stayed at the Residence Inn in Sandy for about 8 weeks while working in the area. The staff was fantastic and very responsive to guests needs or concerns. The morning breakfast was better then most other Residence Inn's I have stayed in and the evening socials were a welcome bonus after a long day at work. I stayed in a 1 bedroom suite which had a full kitchen (including oven). The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. My only complaints are the WI-FI in the hotel is very slow and you need to reconnect on a daily basis I understand that they are working on improving that.

If you're headed for the four Salt Lake side ski hills, this is a great location, and the larger rooms with full kitchens are great. Doubly good, it's right down the street from SuperTarget for groceries and anything forgotten. Breakfasts were good every day. Beds and cleaning also good. Staff was friendly and helpful with advice. Main complaints would be that the walls are very thin, so hope for good neighbors. The lack of recycling options was a shocker, and their breakfast setup seemed to sometimes give you dishes and cutlery and sometimes just stuff you throw away. Oh, and some kid puked in the pool, which left it closed for a day while the pool got shocked. So, um, no, we did not go back in that nasty pool the rest of the week. Hot tub was nice, though. I'd stay here again.

This is our 2nd time staying for a week of skiing. It is only about 30 minutes from Solitude and from Snowbird. It is in a central location to all the good restaurants, shops, and ski rentals. Breakfast is consistently good. We didn't eat the complimentary dinners M-W, but that is nice they offer that. The staff are wonderful. But you can't control your neighbors, such as the ones above use who seem to grind metal or something every night. Or the neighbors who talk really loudly, but you know---I haven't lived in an apartment in decades, and really this is like an apartment complex. Kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom: very convenient! There are a couple of gyms, hot tub, and pool. Even a small basketball court. Though located by the freeway, the windows block out a lot of noise. We will be back.

Room Tip: There is a 2nd building not connected to the main one, so you have to watch outside in the cold to g...

This is the second time I have stayed at this Hotel.
I spent a week here with my son for a skiing vacation.
The location is excellent with easy access to the ski slopes and is a rapid transfer from the airport.
Being close to a large mall complex there are a large number of restaurants in the vicinity.
The accomodation is excellent, on a par with other Residence Inns that I have stayed at, the rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable.
The quality of the food provided was improved since the last visit, a basic buffet is served Mon - Thursday.
My only issues were that the air conditioning was very strong, blowing cold air over the desk area so that whilst the rest of the room might be a resonable temperature you can get quite chilled at the desk. In addition whilst the bedroom is spacious, the chest of drawers was positioned in such a way as to prevent it from opening fully because it came into contact with the bed. Still usable, just annoying.

Very nice suites. My wife and I stayed one night this past weekend. Opened the door and was surprised at the size of the suite...large entryway / kitchen area...very nice living room with a recliner and couch. Merged into the bedroom (open layout) and the flat screen TV rotated on a dresser 360 degrees so you could watch it from many spots in the suite.

Average hot breakfast selection...eggs, sausage, pancakes, waffle maker...etc. Today they had salsa, jalepenos, sour cream and cheese for the eggs as well.

They put up a calendar on the fridge, showing the receptions the manager hosts throughout the week...such as nacho night...etc.

pool and hot tub available...didnt use.

king sized bed...firm! slept like a log haha

hotels location seemed a little weird....not directly off the interstate but on a main road for the town itself.

Would stay here again!

I'm picky but this place was really, really nice. Almost all surprises were good ones. The assistant manager, Travis (I think I have the name right) was a REALLY great guy, very good at making his customers feel like VIPs. Lexy ( It think is her name) also made us always feel just SO welcome!

I was there to ski, with my son and a female friend. So we had the "suite", Boys in one room, girl in the other. Worked out great! Separate bedrooms and bathrooms. Fireplace, kitchen, pool, hot tub (temporarily not jetting water, but still really hot).

The included breakfast was reliable and tasty. Free WiFi! Hey, WHY do "fancy" hotels charge you but more inexpensive properties include WiFi for free?! I hate getting gouged, so this is nice. It was reliable and fast.

The sell SuperPass for skiing right at the front desk. Nice.

I had ONE complaint..... that was remedied immediately. The hillbillies across the hall had a habit of rolling their dirty diapers out into the hall. I was going to knock on their door and kick their crappy diapers back inside their apartment, but decided to be more civil and offer the hotel the chance to correct it first. I mentioned it to Lexy, and it just never happened again. So Kudos to the hotel and BS for the hillbilly neighbors. What is wrong with people? Society is in a steady rate of decline if you ask me.

Speaking of which, people in Salt are just SO nice!!!! Maybe it is the LDS influence but I really liked it there. The boys are clean cut, dress properly, and speak intelligently. The girls are generally quite lovely, friendly, and proper as well. Didn't see any bums or vagrants, not many tattoos, and its a clean city.

Speaking of friendly..... ALTA folks are just SO friendly! Trails are well marked, and the powder is amazing. In my opinion, Snowbird is prettier, but Alta is superior overall. The visitors are just SO sweet! Always offering to take a pics for us, and generally great chit-chat too.

I'm in love with Salt, and the nice people at Residence Inn Sandy made it all possible. Thanks Residence Inn!!!! :-D

Room Tip: We were in #133, no complaints at all.

I rate my hotels based on several criteria depending on what the hotel offered based on a possible 5 stars. I then average the rating of each category to get an overall score.

Hotel Exterior Appearance:
The hotel looks decent from the outside. It's not super unique but not ugly either. It's fairly new, is largely covered in red brick (thank god it is not that ugly taupe stucco) and has a nice shape. Not bad, not great just average.
Rating: 3 Stars

Hotel Appearance Interior:
Much like the outside it's pretty average inside. Clean, functional, nice but nothing super unique or exciting. Looks like most typical chain hotels. There is a nice large breakfast lounge area, with both tables and easy chairs. A TV (Which actually annoys me a bit) and a business center. The hotel also has a gym and a pool/spa which I didn't use.
Rating 3 Stars

Room Appearance:
I like that the walls are largely white instead of a dark weird wallpaper. Furniture is nice, there was a kitchenette, an dining table, a desk, couch, easy chair and the bed in a separate nook. The bathtub was made of real steel and porcelain, not plastic which was a nice touch. There was a fridge, stove, oven, dishwasher and real (not plastic disposable) dishes and utensils. My room had a crappy window that didn't let much light in, but the window opened which was a plus. The AC/Heater kept the room at a good temperature and there were not any goofy noises. The TV is HUGE and worked well. I didn't watch a lot but it seems there were a ton of channels. Probably DirectTV. Overall I quite liked the room.
Rating: 4 Stars

Bed:
The most import criteria of all and I loved it. Nice king size bed. Great pillows, firm enough without being too firm and nice. It really can't get any better:
Rating: 5 Stars

Free Breakfast:
The breakfast was pretty typical. Rotating every day with some egg dish, some meat and some bread. Additionally there was a pancake machine and I think a waffle maker. A few choices of cereal, yogurt, granola, etc. The food was fairly fresh, the coffee fairly decent (bold and mild varieties) and the orange juice was better than most places. Don't get me wrong, no one will ever confuse this with fresh squeezed from Menton...but as hotel chains go, not bad. The disappointments were the styrofoam, throw-away plates, plastic utensils and lack of recycling or compost. There was also very little healthy, or unprocessed food to eat. Still, not bad.
Rating: 3 Stars

Location:
Not bad, not great. There is a giant mall very close with all the bland, annoying national chains in which one can eat or shop and if one ventures a little further one can even find a few local places. Still you can't walk out the hotel and find some place to eat. Everything requires driving. There are no places to walk for enjoyment or exercise. The hotel is next to a freeway, has a great view of the mountains, and is a pretty good location for skiing. Overall, also average.
Rating: 3 Stars

Environment:
The hotel has a clearly stated environmental policy in the rooms which is good. Washable, reusable dishes (etc.) in the room and does some recycling. The rooms have CFL light bulbs as well, but no LED. The toilets are standard flush and the shower does not have a low flow head. As mentioned early the breakfast room uses 100% throw away dishes (etc.) and worse has sytrofoam. There is also no composting or recycling anywhere near the breakfast room. Also, the location necessitates driving to get anywhere. Although not awful it is not very good either.
Rating: 2 Stars

Total Rating: 3.3 Stars, rounded down to 3.
