“Wonderful Inn”
Reviewed December 22, 2011

I stayed in the Tolley Cabin for a workshop that was being held at the inn. The grounds are really well kept, the inn keepers are charming, the breakfast is very good (although if you are health-oriented, it can be a little much) and the location is wonderful.

Ed was very gracious when I called, helping me figure out transportation, and again when I checked in, helping me to my cabin and also mapping out local dining options.

When they rent out the Tolley Cabin for just one person, they don't have anyone stay in the other room, so I had the whole cabin to myself (without access to the other room). It was very quiet, although the furnace and fridge were a little loud, but more in contrast to the extreme quiet.

The king-size bed was pretty comfortable - I'm a thin side-sleeper, so bed comfort is very important to me - I can't sleep on anything too hard. The room is large and has a mini-fridge and microwave as well at a table & chairs, a fireplace and a back door to the parking lot. It has a bit of a motel feel to it.

The bathroom was a little funky - especially the shower. It worked fine, but needs to be tiled and the shower head is in an odd location, which puts you in an odd spot in the shower. They provided plenty of towels.

Internet in the room wasn't super strong or fast, but it did work. If you need faster internet, you can go in the main house (where the office is).

There is a wonderful park across the street as well as the St. George Tabernacle, with free entertainment. Lots of good places to eat within walking distance.

We had two separate rooms, both for just one night. The inn keeper was very helpful and friendly, orienting us to the inn as well as restaurants within walking distance. Both rooms were comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was very good -- a full hot breakfast served in a lovely sitting room. This would be a particularly good choice for groups who want some "togetherness" while still maintaining private space.

Although our stay with Green Gate was only for one night, it left a great impression on us. We stayed in the Tolley Cabin, which is one of the many quaint buildings on the property. Check-in was even a fun experience -- pick up the phone in the little red phone booth out front and our friendly host promptly came to greet us, check us in and show us the grounds and our room.

Our cabin was clean and cozy, with quite an interesting history (you'll have to stay there to learn more). It had a comfortable king bed, TV with cable, small sitting area, fireplace, mini-fridge, small coffee maker, and microwave. There is a shower but no tub in the bathroom.

The location was great - walking distance to parks, a few shops and restaurants. And breakfast (belgian waffles, fruit, bacon, eggs, juices and coffees) was wonderful and served with a smile and good conversation.

If you are looking for a luxury resort, this is not the place (after all, this is an historic property). It is like visiting a relative - warm and comfortable.

We hadn't really intended to spend much time in St. George. But when Zion national park was full up for the weekend it became necessary to find a spot for two days.

We owe it to our trip advisor brethren for pointing us towards the green gate Village historic inn. It's an interesting assemblage of historic buildings around well-maintained landscaping. It really does give one the feeling of escape in the middle of what passes for downtown St. George.

The full sitdown breakfast was delicious with guests arrange pleasantly around tables of six.

One notable thing about the location is that you are a short walk from ancestor square, where many of the good St. George restaurants are located. This was nice on the night that we shared a bottle of wine and were able to walk safely home leaving the car in the parking lot for the night.

Stayed in Tolley Cabin for 5 nights in September at the start of a two-week trip northward through Utah, and we can only echo the positive comments made by others. Our cabin faced into Green Gate Village's meticulously maintained courtyard and overlooked the swimming pool. Warm & welcoming, with an extra room in the cabin for larger families to stay together if needed. It's just a short walk to the main house for Ed's sumptuous breakfasts - no need to stop for lunch with his eggs, French toast, waffles, meat, fresh fruit, juices and other goodies at the start of the day.
Green Gate Village is centrally located in St George, across the street from the tabernacle and one of the best city parks we've ever seen, complete with its own water features and a carousel. It's easy to access the interstate for day trips to Zion & Bryce, and for a full-day trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Parking is plentiful & close to your room; it's a one block walk to the center of St George's downtown shopping and restaurant area.
We were fortunate to get tickets to "Grease" at Tuacahn (spelling?) on the way to Snow Canyon State Park, and this outdoor venue should not be missed when you are in St George. Lindy can score you discount tickets during the season - it's well worth the evening's attention.
In short, Green Gate village was one of the best B&Bs we've stayed in in the USA. if you are coming in either direction to/from Las Vegas and want to relax in comfort for a few nights, put this B&B on your short list.

This was the first time we have ever stayed at a bed & breakfast. We stayed in Tolley Cabin. The breakfast was great. The baked apples and especially the way they were served was so special! The innkeepers made our stay so comfortable. They are very warm people. The location was very good for Zion National park, Cedar Breaks Monument, horse back riding and Tuacahn Amphitheater. We really enjoyed our stay. This facility is right across the street from a lovely park, walking distance to restaurants, antique stores, etc. We look forward to staying again! The price was well worth it!

I have never left a review, but I just had too for this little place. If you like history, you will not be disappointed. My husband and I went on a getaway weekend while we were out visiting family in Utah County. This was such a great place to stay. Ed and Lindy were wonderful. Breakfast was delicious. We checked several other hotels, and the price was comparable to most of the decent hotels in St. George. With breakfast, price was really unbeatable. You can also get a discout at the Tuhucahn Theatre if you ask at the front desk.
We stopped at Bryce Canyon National Park and played there all day, and then drove down to St. George and stayed in the Orson Pratt home at the Green Gate Village. We loved reading about the history of each of the homes. This is in the heart of the historical district in St. George, and two of the places in Green Gate Village are on the St. George historical walking tour. We love antiques and this place is full of them. We missed out on swimming in the pool, but it's open all night as long as you are considerate of the other guests.
Places to eat: If you like sushi, try the new Sakura. We enjoyed the rolls. Fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed the Painted Pony. Delicious variety of food, with locally grown produce. It was quite the treat and the food is not only aesthetically pleasing but tastes great.
We'll definitely be going back to the Green Gate Village!!
