Agreeable place with very professional staff and 5 star food. Cheap? no. good? YES. We went for dessert Dec 24 afternoon, and lunch 2 days later. Desserts and sandwiches were hand made, delicious, and quickly served. If you are within 100 miles get here if you can!

We wound up spending the night in St George, and just randomly picked this place for dinner based on the name, of all things. We really didn't expect much, walking down St George Blvd lined with motels and fast food, but were very pleasantly surprised once we found the restaurant tucked away upstairs a ways back from main st. Very cozy and comfortable southwest atmosphere.

I had the special that night, cod fish on lobster risotto, which was incredibly good. Also had the french onion soup which was also great, and served in a giant carved out onion!

My favorite part of the Painted Pony was the decor---it was exactly as you might expect the desert Southwest to be--and perfectly conducive to a romantic dinner. The fare was good----but I wouldn't call it particularly memorable or "great" by any means, e.g., if you take away the atmosphere, not sure the food would hold up as "superior." The service was attentive, but not overly attentive, and the portions ample. I would not recommend the short ribs of beef and I wish I had tried something else. Next time!

Painted Pony has an upscale southwestern menu, fun for an occasion. The lunch menu is a bargain. Their soups are innovative and they take great care whit their preparations.
