“My favorite for many years”

If you have never been privileged to have frozen custard, then you are missing out! Nielsen's is the ONLY place to try it and keep going back. There is a new imitator on the other side of town but that custard is crap! Only get Nielsen's Custard. My fav is the caramel cashew.

“The Experience was Vanilla”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

As a standard methodology; when first visiting an ice cream, yogurt or frozen custard eatery, I always order "vanilla." Why? Because, all other flavors offered are created using their vanilla as a base.

In this experience, Nielsen's vanilla custard wasn't "bad," but it wasn't "excellent." Instead, "average" was the overall rating I give this product. The texture of the custard was smooth, but the vanilla flavoring could have been more pronounced (without being over-the-board; perfume-like).

The service was very friendly, and the staff member was eager to offer suggestions for a first-time visitor. The interior of the eatery was clean and well-maintained. Parking was available, but limited, during my 4:00 p.m. visit.

Frozen custard is actually very rich-tasting ice cream. For those who have never enjoyed this treat, it is basically "ice cream" made with the added ingredient of eggs. To qualify as a true "custard," the product must contain at least 10% butterfat and 1.4% egg yoke solid, which gives the treat its rich taste and creamy texture.

Although invented in New York, the Mid-West United States is really the unofficial capitol of frozen custard. Therefore, when comparing Nielsen's Frozen Custard with other custard eateries in these geographical areas -- Neilsen's doesn't quite have the richness of places such as Kopp's or Gilles frozen custard.

Nevertheless, Neilsen's Frozen Custard is still a very tasty treat, and I recommend travelers give them a try when passing through St. George, Utah.

“Can't Drive Through St. George without Stopping!!”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Oh my. We stopped on the way to and from and it was sooooo good!! I'm normally not a fan of chocolate, but theirs is so light and creamy it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Taste all 3 flavors of the day and take your pick. They are all good. Skip dinner and have a large! The portions aren't as big as you would think. The floor is dirty and the teenagers are loud, but overlook the rest to taste this custard!!!

“Custard and a Sandwich”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

This is one of the greatest road stops there is. The frozen custard isn't called ice cream because it is too good! You have got to try the sandwiches; hand made for you and taste fantastic. Skip the fast food and have a sandwich and a frozen custard cup.

“Not Very Good and certainly not clean”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Have had custard all over the Midwest but this is very substandard by those comparisons. Dense and tasteless. Place overrun with lots of blonde teens. floors look like they haven't been scrubbed in years. Yuck.
