“Firts Class Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2009

Accompanied my husband on a business meeting at the Stein Erickson in August 2008. We had a wonderful 1 bedroom apartment with full kitchen and family room. Would NEVER be able to afford such luxury on our own! The room and resort amenities were first class. Pool is small but service was incredible.

The lodge is not in the town of Deer Valley but up on the mountain. You will need a car to go into town. Probably better for a romantic getaway than a family vacation given the exorbitant cost of the rooms and rather remote location.

This might be a nice place, we never really got to it, so we don´t know. But their customer service is certainly sub par.

We booked a suite for 5 nights May 2, for arrival July 4th. We then had contact with the lodge several times regarding restaurant reservations, changes in departure dates, etc. June 11th we recieve an email that due to a SPA extension there will be no pool, limited spa, and temporary health club for guests - paying full price - for their mid summer stay (July 4th - July 8th). They say they are pleased to announce this!

Of course I immediately answered by e-mail that this was totally unacceptable, and wondered why they did not mention anything about this when we made our reservation. To be fair, it now states on their home page that the pool will be closed etc, and that this will be in effect from June 1. But I find it very unlikely that a 20.000 SF SPA extension suddenly came up from nowhere sometime between May 2 (when we booked our vacation) and June 1.

I got no response what so ever from my e-mail, so I called and cancelled our reservation. Then a pre-written e-mail from their CEO promptly arrived, where he bragged about how effeciently and cordially they would cancel all the things I had booked through them. And the next day, some other department of the resort did just that. The problem? We are still going to Park City - but will of course stay at another resort, the Sky Lodge. How come they did not even bother to ask if we wanted to keep our dinner reservations? Becaues they are arrogant and ignorant.

Beware of this place, I can not believe how they can be allowed to operate in the hospitality business.

Classy, spacious rooms and a great restaurant. You couldn't ask for better service. This is really one of the best places I have ever stayed. The suites are particularly nice.

We drove up to park city right after getting married to stay here. We got a deal on the room and it looked amazing. We got there kind of late at night because we got kind of lost going up the mountain after our wedding reception. They were all so nice and helpful especially because I was still in my wedding dress. They drove us to the closest entrance to our room and took all of our bags up there for us. They lit the fire in our room every night we were there! The room was amazing. I loved the music they have playing in the room when you get there. They called us to make sure when would be a good time to clean our room so they wouldn't bug us by knocking on the door a bunch of times. I forgot a hairbrush so they brought up a comb really quickly. They also give you yummy chocolates when you check in. We called them to light the fire again the second night because it was so nice. The view from our balcony was beautiful. We had such a great time there and we plan to go back for our anniversaries!

We skied three days at Alta, where we stayed at the Alta Peruvian Lodge. P-Dog was its own self, good and fun as always. On the way back to Montana we spent one night at the Stein Eriksen Lodge. It was a true highlight of our trip, and a great way to cap off our mini-vacation. The staff was extremely gracious and helpful. Our room (deluxe bedroom) was wonderful, one of the nicest hotel rooms I've ever experienced. We were fortunate enough to book the spring rejuvenation package, which included dinner, and the food was excellent. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our brief stay at Stein's place. Fantastic value post-ski season.

i was cold all the time - everything is outside - even if you want to go to the gym to workout you have to get all bundled up - if it is cold and snowy it is a big drag. first room they showed us had a big puddle - floor was soaking wet - and the room was two flights down in the basement. I had heard that they put people in the basement and specifically asked not to be put here. Only view was of a stairwell. Second room looked like it hadn't been upgraded since the 70's. We were told only other room available was a suite for a $300 upgrade. I spoke with the manager who eventually allowed us to stay in the suite without charging for upgrade. Nevertheless this only had a king bed and i was travelling with a friend and didn't want to share a bed. She ended up sleeping in murphy bed in the living room. Total Disaster. The courtyard concept is ridiculous - you have to walk up and down stairs to go to lobby - different stairs/walk to go to spa - again different set of stairs/walk to go to restaurants - this is 5 stars? I was totally and utterly disappointed. Also we were there for big event and there was no hair salon. I think it is overpriced and the only game in town so they can get away with mediocrity.

I've stayed here many times before and Stein's never disapoints. Room was amazing, food was great, atmosphere was fun and relaxing. Had a wonderfun treatment at the spa. My only problem was when they lost my ski boots (rentals) one morning, ended up delaying my attempt to hit the slopes by about 20 minutes. I just hope i can make it back next year!
