Description: "Where's the beer? Where are the breweries?" Those were among the first thoughts Greg Schirf had after moving to Utah from Milwaukee in the early 80's. Incredibly, drinking and brewing were all but forbidden. Greg took matters into his own hands and did what any self-respecting midwesterner would do: He started a brewery. Wasatch was the very first brewery in Utah - and one of the first craft brewers in all of the U.S. - brewing award-winning brews since 1986. In 1988, Greg Schirf proposed another bill to the Utah Legislature making brewpubs legal in Utah and opened the first brewpub at the top of historic Main Street in the resort town of Park City. Wasatch continues to misbehave, turning out naughty beer after naughty beer year after year.

My husband and I visited the Wasatch Brew Pub for the first time last week. Friends had recommended it and we were not disappointed.

The menu featured many unique items, some with rather unexpected ingredients. I chose a quinoa, black bean and edamame salad and a cup of the soup du jour, Beer and Cheese. Hubster got a Philly Cheesesteak (he's always on the hunt for the perfect one). When the salad arrived, DH said it looked like a fruitcake because it was place on the lettuce bed in a molded looking form, but it was delicious, especially with the champagne shallot vinaigrette. The soup was very flavorful and tasted homemade, even had a few onions in there.

The dining area was clean and inviting. The staff was getting the patio ready to open while we were there; probably another week or so till it gets warm enough. We were very pleasantly surprised by the prices especially considering the location, but we weren't complaining! The only complaint we did have - and it was minor - was that service was a little slow. We didn't try any of the beers, but maybe next time. And there will probably be one.

I've been here half a dozen times and usually like it but was not impressed this time. The beer is delicious, especially the funky Jalapeño Ale. Some of the food was good, other dishes were subpar and one was downright careless. I'll leave out the details, but the server even comped that dish without me asking because it was so offensive. The manager or owner should have come out and apologized but he/she did not. At least the waiter apologized. Their staff leaves something to be desired. They are nowhere near as friendly as the rest of Utah, and it makes me want to get a growler and leave. Or, frequent other places where the staff is nice and makes you want to support that business.

We had a late lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. It's a varied menu with something for everyone. I had a great salad whilst my husband had a burger. Both portion sizes were good, service good and we felt we had value for money. There were a good mix of people in, guys watching sport, families with children of all ages as well as couples like ourselves all making for a good atmosphere. We'd happily eat there again.

Good food, good beer and an awesome atmosphere! Kid friendly with giant fresh brewed rootbeer floats. $2 Bloody Mary's on Sunday for Brunch. You can't beat it!

At the top of town this pub provides a good mix of food and ales. If there is one thing Utah does well, it makes good beer. If you are lucky enough to be in Park City for several days you can eat at many of the pubs/bars but you will have to come back many times to get through them all. This is one worth coming back to.
