“Cozy and Delicious”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

We dined with friends at Mariposa, as we often do when visiting Deer Valley. It keeps getting better, with outstanding dishes and world class service -- even though it is in the Silver Lake Lodge that hosts the skiers cafeteria and lockers. Our server (Stephanie) went above and beyond to meet special requests and the atmosphere on a frigid snowy night was warm and cozy -- just what we needed. There are several separate, smallish dining rooms that avoid the cavernous feeling of many restaurants. The menu offers smaller tasting portions, which is delightful because you get to try several of their excellent dishes, not just one.
The only drawback -- and it is minor, is that the restrooms are shared with the skiers cafeteria, so you have to walk a ways and go downstairs to get to them -- and they are functional, not quaint. It would be nice if they fixed this problem, but it won't keep us from coming back if they don't.

“Zagats really ranks them # 1?”
Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

May have been an off night, but ordered drinks came to the wrong people . The special onion soup was weak and tasteless. The cherry sauce practically drowned my beautiful pierce of lamb. The service was distracted. Maybe the chefs were too. Everything is a la carte, and the waiter insists that they are a tasting menu restaurant, that every course is small so choose three or more. That us not true. Only two of us had three courses, mediocre soup, salad and main course. No one was remotely interested in dessert. I can only hope they had an off night. Would not return or recommend.

“Small Plates at Big Prices”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

Maybe I had big expectations, but my two small plates were just average. I had the buratta salad. The cheese did not have much of a taste. I'm kind of a vinegar snob and the vinegar wasn't the most flavorful, either. I also ordered the Diver Scallop Cerviche. I think it may only have been one large scallop, sliced thinly and topped with a sauce.

Even though my choices were misses, my husband loved his lobster chowder. Others at our table seemed to enjoy the pan seared scallops (or should I say "scallop"?).

We tried the snowball for dessert. Yes, it was good! And it was a regular portion.

Service was excellent.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

We read great reviews of Mariposa so we were looking forward to our dinner there. We found the food to be adequate - nothing wrong with it but nothing special. The staff was very nice and attentive, but there were several snafus from the moment we sat down for our meal, and it never really recovered. Compounded by the fact that this was an extremely expensive outing, I would not strongly recommend it to anyone.

“Change = Perfect Pairings”
Reviewed February 2, 2014 via mobile

Dinner at the Mariposa was super. I must say we had to change our reservations a couple of times during the week and very accommodating. Finally on our dinner night we were early and no problem just sink down in the big plump leather couches by the fire . They seated us promptly and Jon our waiter began asking when we were last in. Since it had been over a year he described the NEW menu , which was like a tasting or tapas . Suggested 2-4 items on the average. We loved this and we had brought in a bottle of wine , although he explained they also have pairings with the food. What a great way to spend a non rushed evening of food. The Quail
Saltinbucca was excellent with a light mushroom miso cab reduction , mmm, the simple buratta heirloom tomato salad very nice , the lobster chowder looked minuscule as a serving but was perfect...... And it all left room for dessert.... Go try and enjoy . The only note I would add is they should keep the fire going at all times as the crackle adds ambience and keeps the conversations at tables lulled. And... Don't bother to bring a wine try the pairings.
