“Fine trip, but nothing big”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Swaner Nature Preserve was not quite what we expected. The facility is pretty small with only a few exhibits inside although they did provide some fun picture opportunities. The people that work there are AMAZING! They were very helpful. They led our family to a spot where we could see a nest full of baby robins nestled in the crook of the building's joists. They also supplied us with binoculars and sent us out on the grounds to explore with field guides and charts to help us know what we were looking at...all with no fees or questions asked. However, there just really wasn't much to see here. We have six children and planned to make this a day trip, but after about an hour we were struggling to keep it going. We love to explore the outdoors and get a glimpse of nature in action, but that just didn't happen for us here. Maybe we were there on an off day, but we probably wouldn't go back.

“Beautiful local treasure...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Recently took the kids for a day, museum activities were a highlight, but the snowshoe tour stole the show. Kids were ages 3 - 7. EcoCenter had the gear and the right trail that was age appropriate. Great family afternoon alternative to skiing. TIP: Hot Cocoa and cookies at Kneaders next door was a great reward.

“Pretty if you're in area”

Not worth the extra effort to go and do unless you are in the area already.

“Peace, Tranquility and Nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

There is nothing better than the opportunity for experiential learning about nature. The Swaner Preserve is protected yet you can walk the trails that surround it and see Sand Cranes and a variety of small birds and ducks during three seasons. The Eco Center offers programs led by professors from UT State and other visiting authorities who give tours of and speak about this natural habitat and its celestial umbrella. Bring the children. It is beautiful during all seasons and there is much to do in the neighborhood. What's is very special is that you cannot tell that civilization is a few steps away.

“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2011

Today I went solo. I have the privilege of living here. The EcoCenter's interior activities are good for adults (check out the counters in the bathrooms), and as a non-parent I'd say under ten. There is a rock wall which designates native species, some Q and A's and maps. For families and usually adults there are evening lectures on environmental issues and wildlife. There are also regular guided walks through the Preserve.

We live right on the Preserve. Five feet away, to be precise. Our patterns are guided by the wildlife, as the swallows just left yesterday so it's going to be an early winter. I invite Preserve photographers up on our deck to get better photos. Our favorites are the Greater Sandhill Cranes, who are about to leave for the winter but provide endless entertainment as they nest and raise their colts from April to October. We saw a pair leave the Preserve yesterday morning. My husband and I were hand in hand and they were wing to wing.

There's a trail all around the Preserve, for bikes, walking, running and in the winter, XC skis. Check out Park City and look for Newpark. If you're here, you're on the path.
