Not my usual jaunt since I'm not a skier but for spring vacation, the neighboring park city mountain resort opens on Memorial Day weekend for families to enjoy the outdoor activities. The mountainside resort has a great number of activities from young children to adult.

This is a ski resort. I am sure it gets very crowded in winter. However, we did not go there for skiing.

We went during the off-season just to relax, do nothing and celebrate our belated 25th anniversary. It is a great location, great view of the mountains. Very peaceful. Too bad the weather was colder than seasonally-normal, otherwise we would have done more hiking.

We did not really need any service, except checking in. Amber helped us with that; she was very friendly and also very considerate. Check-in was very fast.

Here, you can buy alcohol only in certain government-run stores and they are closed on Sundays, we were told. A few hours later, Amber brought to our room a complimentary bottle of wine to help us celebrate our anniversary. That is a ten-star service (out of five) right there.

They do chili night on Sundays. So we had some of the best chili we tasted. Of course Amber was also there helping guests, like a real owner.

The suite was facing the mountain, great view. It had plenty of supplies. There is a Walmart, Whole foods and many other stores within a short drive. There are several local stores too, within a walking distance (on a warmer day).

We signed up for the timeshare just that to keep abreast of what Marriott was offering lately, kill time and and get a free Amex gift card. We did not buy any timeshare. However, I have to say the salesman, Don S., was the most professional, must courteous and most respectful time share salesman one could ever meet.

There was plenty of parking in the underground parking lot because it was low season. We had no problems with parking. We also noticed a whole bunch of activities for kids as well in the welcome package.

For our last vacay to Park City, we stayed at the Marriott that is in town, not on the mountainside. Choose the Mountainside, it is a great location, we are skiiers, and we go away to ski. It is ski in, ski out. We had a 2 bedroom condo, we had my parents, myself and my boyfriend and my sister. So we had 5 of us, my parents always have the master suite (they love the jacuzzi tub!) My sister has the 2nd bedroom, and myself and my boyfiend have the pullout in the living room. This combination has been tested at quite a few Marriott's we have stayed it, and it worked best here. Our villas was a great size (we have had some Marriott 2 Bed Villa's before which have been tiny).

We arrived pre-check in, but our villa was ready for us. As always, clean and ready to go. As Vacation Club owners, we love going to new resorts and hotels, and this one was another great find. Every evening they did a little social event, we only went to one, but it was a Beers & Brats night down by the firepits, we always take our own booze to the villas, so we already had our own beers, which they didn't even bat and eyelid when we brought them down. The Brats were great, and we cooked our own on the firepits. It was a great time to meet other members and get to know people.

Thanks for another fantastic stay :)

The building has the feel of a lodge, which ties in well with the area. There is a free movie theater on site that shows some of the latest films. The activity center also offers a variety of things to do, either for free or for a nominal fee. They even shuttle you to a few sites for free (any site admission fee is your responsibility).

FYI: You can go to Marriott's sister property, called Marriott Summit Watch, to enjoy their activity center and pool as well.

We stay at the MountainSide Resort a lot and find it excellent every time we visit, whether summer or winter. The rooms have been recently updated and are spacious, clean, and well appointed. The 6-7 hot tubs are great and the pool is large enough to accommodate a large crowd. The resort is right adjacent to the Park City ski resort and close to the "old mining town" You can get almost anywhere by using the free local transit system. There are great restaurants along the 3-4 block of main street in the old original town center.

Room Tip: While there are no bad rooms if you want to be able to view the ski resort ask for a room facing the...

We stayed here last week right before the slopes were closed down. The resort is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We did not ski this trip, but enjoyed watching the skiers from our room that had a great view. We own at other Marriott Timeshares and are extremely happy to be able to stay at their other resorts because we know we are going to be staying at a quality place.

We traveled from here to visit relatives for Easter and some colleges in Utah and Idaho for our daughter to look at. It was nice to be able to come back from those mini-trips and just relax.

On our way home to California, we stopped off for a few days at another Marriott Timeshare in Las Vegas.

We will definitely come back.

The hubs and I along with our four kids (one is an infant) and Grandma. We had two/two bedrooms units. One unit faced slope side (3rd floor) and the other across the hall faced village side.

This review will be from the perspective of a parent – the pros and cons we faced with small kids.

Marriot Mountainside was impressive for families. The rooms were well appointed, mixing bowls, cookie sheets, can openers. Our unit even had a humidifier that we used for a family member getting over a cold. They had a nice pack and play for the baby that was clean and complete with a sheet and blanket. We also had a high chair that was like you’d see in a restaurant, with a small tray and made of heavy duty plastic. (requested these items a week in advance). We brought our Wii for the kids and it hooked up easily. Each room had a Blu Ray – a really nice feature.

We also used two of their box fans, these were useful to drown out the noise on the slop side unit (3rd floor). We overlooked the pool area and it was LOUD. LOUD! We like to open the windows at night to feel the fresh air and it was nearly impossible for the noise. The positive part to this, when the windows were closed, the noise was low and Marriot did ask people to leave the area at 11 pm promptly and did not allow people to swim again until 8 am.

There at least five hot tubs – well heated and one large pool. The ski in/out access was by walking through the pool area. There are two large fire pits with the fire burning at all times with large comfy rocking chairs. These are next to the hot tubs/pool. There was an area with four-five grills with small nightlights used by a lot of people (although I never saw anyone waiting). The resort supplies you with the tongs, scraper and spatula for cooking that can be requested through The Mine area. The resort also provides S’more tongs, which too can be requested through The Mine. We used these daily! Nice touch!

The resort has a small “store” with basics like milk, bread, eggs, bacon, S’more supplies. The price was double normal retail. We arrived late and bought a small container of milk for cereal in the AM to allow time to get to the store. The Market is a store near the resort that I saw most people using for stocking food and drink.

The hotel didn’t have a bar, but did have a restaurant attached called “Legacy”. I didn’t see a lot of people dining there but it looked nice. Our kids ate at Legacy every day they were in ski school and loved it there.

The Mine area is like a college Student Union. There were pool tables, large screen TVs, chess/checker boards, foosball, a 16-seat movie theater and popcorn maker (they list the movies that will be shown throughout the day). The actual Mine room was just for kids. There were two Xbox’s, train area, bean bag chairs, a TV with a movie running and smoothie machine (which the kids could order ($2 small $3 for large and charged to the room). They have young college aged people working this area and keeping the kids safe. However, your child must be 8 or older to be left alone in that area. The Mine area is located in the 2nd floor and opens into the Ski Valet that opens into the fire pit/pool area that leads to ski in/out. The first floor is parking and registration area. The hotel supplies you with an agenda of activities that will be happening throughout the week. They did a nice job at planning activities. One evening there was a hot chocolate bar ($3 each and charged to the room), cotton candy making ($2), free magic show, an evening with a blues band playing by the fire pits with free hot dogs that could be roasted over the fire. I was truly impressed that they had such nice activities for families.

As for the room location in the resort – there were some hidden gems. I like the rooms on the 2nd floor (which was really the first since it was level with the grounds) that opens up to the pool area. Those units had patios with large dining tables with them. I would see the kids jump their little wall and enter straight into the unit. Parents would hand off drinks, ski goggles etc. through the patio area. – but then these areas will certainly hear all the noise from the pool area, but it was a nice perk. You could watch kids in the pool area from the patio. The third floor rooms had a balcony that overlook The Mine area. So I was able to sit on one of the sofas and keep an eye on the kids while still being near the room. Our rooms were the first set of rooms off the elevator. We’d hear kids running past our rooms, often yelling etc.

The village didn’t have too many choices for restaurant and drinks. There is a Mexican cantina which had average food and average cost (I am from Vegas, so I am used to paying tourist cost).

Overall, I give this place five stars!

Tip: Be sure to bring aluminum foil for the grill and lining the cookie sheets. Saves with clean up!

Tip: Pool towels are provided.

Tip: Small washer and dryer. They provide washing powders for two loads. So bring extra!
