For years whenever I flew commercial airlines and read the in-flight magazine, Ruth's Chris was always prominently featured in the "Best Steak Houses" listings. So I decided to check it out myself. The restaurant is in the hard-to-find (hardly any signage) Park City Hotel, which by itself is lovely. My husband and I were on a little anniversary getaway and the evening was pleasant so we asked to dine on the patio. The high-backed, semi-circular booths in the dining room, upholstered in a bright striped fabric, didn't appeal to us as much as the patio overlooking the pool and grounds. The service was impeccable, the food excellent, and the view of the ski slopes a treat. We ordered steaks and they were of course magnificent - served screaming hot with melted butter, and prepared exactly as ordered, and were of the most superior quality. Side dishes (sweet potato casserole, potatoes au gratin, fresh asparagus), were also well prepared, if somewhat predictable. In particular, I would have liked to have seen roasted asparagus or served with a Hollandaise sauce instead of plain, steamed spears untroubled by any seasonings. The sourdough bread was crusty outside and light and moist inside as it should be. As sunset gave way to evening, punctuated by twinkly lights and the glow of the pool, the patio quickly became quite chilly, a situation remedied by the lighting of the large propane patio heaters which, with their tall flames, cast a romantic glow over our table. We did not order dessert, as dinner was quite sufficient, but the dessert menu looked delectable. A nice bonus was the excellent live music provided by an unnamed artist who played both guitar and harmonica, and sang with an impressive and well-presented repertoire of pop and folk hits. Sitting outside, the music was neither too loud nor soft, and added a very pleasant ambience. The wait staff was pleasant and professional, unobtrusive but always there when something was wanted. If you are expecting exotic, be advised - the food is cooked very simply and presented without frills, but it stands on its own and at the price is a good value. All in all it was a very satisfying dining experience and we will return again.
