“Perfect mountain cabin”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

We rented the Mesa Cabin at XbarH and it was perfect. The location was convenient for both Zion and Bryce, the cabin is adorable (plenty of room for 3 people), the kitchen is really well set up with almost everything you have in your own home. Make sure you stock up on beer and wine in Nevada - there is nothing available for miles around. And we also did all our grocery shopping in Nevada. There is a little store in Orderville for the barest of essentials. We also loved hiking around the cabin area. The setting is spectacular. And my brother and my husband were so happy - practically every sports channel there is was available on their Dish TV ::-)

We stayed in the Mesa Cabin. It is tucked against a great red rock wall and faces the narrow valley of Orderville. The location is great for touring the canyons and BLM lands of Southern Utah. The owner had lots of suggestions for things to do and there was tons of literature for all the nearby parks. We found the cabin warm and inviting. Our four days and nights passed quickly. It's a great place to see the night sky. We were overwhelmed by the North American Nebula.

We loved our stay here. Michelle is a fabulous host. We had the beautiful suite on the top and felt like we had arrived in heaven. Michelle took care of our old doggie, Artie, while we went to Best Friends Animal Society. We also had brought our new kitten, Callasita, and she was played with and entertained while we were out.
We think about this place often and can't wait to come back.

We only stayed one night at the XbarH lodge but now see that we should have booked the whole week. All at once it's in the middle of nowhere AND in the middle of one of the most beautiful parts of the country we've ever visited. Thirty minutes from Zion, an hour from Bryce Canyon, and two hours from the Grand Canyon North Rim. We got the recommendation from Bruce at the Windows of the West Hummer Tours and we're sure glad we took his advice.

We stayed in the Mountain Suite which was extremely clean and roomy. Extravagantly big for just two people but much better than a single room. The Mountain Suite is a two-story, two-bed loft arrangement with your own private sitting area, bathroom, and stairway to the Loft. For those staying in the single rooms (and all lodge guests), there's a large living room, kitchen, dining room, and sitting room on the first floor; and a big game room on the third floor. We didn't get to see inside the cabin on the other end of the property but it looked nice from the outside.

This is a perfect home base for a large family when exploring southern Utah. Owners JC & Michelle were very gracious and made us feel right at home. For those staying longer there's a laundry in the basement (which we used) and a barbecue grill out back. You can even take a hike up onto the ridge since the property covers something like 70 acres including the surrounding hills.

Thanks to JC and Michelle for making our stay memorable...even though it was too short.

You and your pets will feel pampered here. This place is awesome. Very professionally run and homey at the same time. Loved everything do wn to the great soap in the bathroom! It has ruined staying anywhere else with my dog. The owner is so caring and loves pets AND people. She cares about every person who walks through the door. And even though it's a pet-friendly lodge, this place is immaculate. Has the grand look of a cedar mountain lodge with a cozy fireplace and canyon views. Excellent location for exploring the parks, especially Zion and Bryce Canyon. Downtown Kanab is a short drive south. At your request the owner will check on your pet and even walk them throughout the day while you are gone. It's a huge weight off your mind so you can enjoy your day out at the park. I was traveling cross country solo and found the cozy cave room to be ideal and very reasonably priced. Whether you're traveling with pets or not, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely experience in scenic Utah. You'll want to stay!!

Room Tip: I had the cave room on the first floor. Despite the name it has plenty of light, a canyon view and e...

I'd scoured a variety of websites, including tripadvisor, for a rental cabin in southern Utah that was genuinely secluded - not the ubiquitous close-up shot where zooming out reveals that the place is actually part of a subdivision, but a proper cabin with some space around it, some privacy, and most of all, a place that blended effortlessly and humbly with Utah's gorgeous landscapes. A good friend and I go on annual trips where we like to get outside to hike, explore, and enjoy good food and drink, and the more rustic the setting, for us, the better. Finally found the XbarH Mesa Cabin, close to our departure date, and instantly got excited. We'd avoided looking into lodges, so hadn't come across the cabin's listing, but it seemed to fit what we were looking for, as it appeared to be very much on its own, and far enough away from the main lodge that privacy was assured. Emailed Michele for details, specifically regarding the layout of the property, and she promptly got back to me with information - even a detailed satellite map! A joy to correspond with. Arrived and was struck immediately by the warmth of both JC and Michele; both fantastic, friendly people. The cabin itself, along with the surrounding property, is stunning. During our time there (5 days/nights), we hiked The Narrows (the 2-day, top-down route), climbed Angels Landing so early one morning that we were practically alone up there, mountain biked around Navajo Lake, climbed around in the gorgeous slot canyon a short trip from the lodge, and stuffed ourselves with buffalo ribs, rattlesnake, and cobbler at the nearby Buffalo Bistro. We barbecued enormous feasts using the charcoal barbecue, and spent nights putting our tired feet up on the porch, cold drinks close at hand, or clambering up the red rock behind the cabin in the light of the full moon. The cabin was spotless and cozy, and JC and Michele supply staples such as coffee, dishwashing soap, and charcoal, so the annoyance of having to buy staples for only a few days away is averted. There are lots of family reviews for this property, and I fully agree that families will love the Mesa Cabin, but if you're looking for a place to spend some one-on-one quality time with an old friend, the Mesa Cabin works for that too. Michele and JC are the perfect hosts, as they have that rare, all-important ability to understand their guests' needs without anyone saying a word. In our case, as wonderful as the two of them were, and as certain as we both were that they'd be fun to hang out with, we were looking most for some alone time, a true feeling of privacy, and they very easily and graciously helped us out with that experience. An absolutely incredible, very special place indeed.

If the beauty of a place can be judged by the number of photos you're inspired to take of it, then the XbarH Lodge is truly stunning. From colorful rock formations to tiny flowers, I spent an entire afternoon just roaming and photographing. The only thing I regret not being able to capture with a camera were the stars at night. The Milky Way stretched from horizon to horizon and we've never seen so many stars, ever!

We stayed in the Mesa Cabin which was immaculately clean and well-equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed and we ate in every night of our five night stay. Michele, JC and Heidi made us feel not like guests, but like friends. It's evident that they love their amazing spot on this planet and guided us on the best hikes in Zion and Bryce, and on their property. We're not sure when, but we will return to visit this amazing place, and our new friends in Utah!
