“Nothing good to say...”
Reviewed February 8, 2011

I was intrigued by the funky atmosphere and was really hoping the food would be great. The caved-in ceiling tiles, the picture frame on the wall held together with tape, the velcro on the wall where something used to hang. The food was not great. First, the sauce that drenched the relleno and tamale was thick, pasty, way over-salted and tasteless. The relleno was mushy and the cheese that poured out resembled soup. The taco was housed in an unappetizing limp corn tortilla, containing stringy tough beef. The rice was way over-cooked and mushy as were the beans, pureed to nearly the texture of cake-batter and also tasteless. The mushy rice was laden with what seemed like black pepper, which was just weird. Very friendly staff, though, but there's nothing redeeming about the food. I've had plenty of traditional Mexican food, and this isn't it.

“Don't even think about it”
Reviewed May 2, 2010

We lived in Ogden for eight years and gave Javier's more than one try. Unfortunately, every time we went, our experience was worse than the last. The very last time we ate there was the day before we married; we held our rehearsal lunch there for our family. The restaurant had their usual lunch rush but was not overly crowded. Our waiter took drink orders, and he apparently thought we needed an hour between when we asked for our drinks and when we actually got them. Then once we received our drinks, it took him another half hour to come back and take our food order! Once the food did come, 45 minutes after we ordered, every order for our seven family members was wrong. My father-in-law complained to the manager on duty, who resolved the issue by not charging us for our drinks. Obviously that was not enough to assuage our upset over such a horrific lunch experience; we have never been back and would never recommend that restaurant to anyone.

“what a ripoff!”
Reviewed March 11, 2008

after having eaten at the Jaivier's in West Ogden and South Ogden we figured it would be another very good dining experience. Boy, were we wrong. 2 of us ordered the #2 Lunch and 2 of us ordered the #10 Lunch. First off on the #2 both of our plates were covered with an excessive amount of shredded lettuce to hide what (wasn't) underneath - which it turned out was common to both of the #10s as well - a lack of meat and a SEVERE lack of cheese. I don't think there was more than a teaspoon of cheese on all four meal combined.
the taco had about an inch and a half of meat and the rest was all shell. the tamale had a wierd coating on it that tasted awful - it was not eaten. we will never eat at the Layton Javier's again - what a ripoff.
