Ben Lomond Suites Historic Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel
Ranked #5 of 21 Hotels in Ogden
Reviewed July 23, 2011

My wife and I stayed in room 301 which was a two room corner suite. The suite was quite large and very comfortable with five windows which gave us a view of the city and mountains. The rooms have period furniture, a very comfortable four poster bed, are nicely furnished and very clean. The bath room has a jetted tub. There are TVs in both rooms and the High Speed Wi Fi that actual works. The hotel was built in 1927 and was of the three Grand Hotels built in Utah. This hotel is the only one that is still in use as a hotel. In the 80s the 350 rooms were converted to one and two bed room suites. The lobby and the Grand Ball Room still retain the art deco beauty of the grand hotels of the 20s and 30s with high hand painted ceilings, tall arched windows and marble floors. The hotel is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Mac Cools Pub is located off the lobby. The staff is very friendly and efficient, in fact the manger after giving us a tour of the Grand Ball Room (this is a must see) walked out to our car and helped us with our luggage. A short walk away is the top end of 25th street ( two bit street) with Bars, Restaurants, Art Galleries and misc small shops. Price wise it is the best deal for the money in Ogden. I would recommend the Ben Lomond Suites to our friends or any one that should ask.

Overall not a bad experience but generally I'd have to rate it average.

Here are the cons:
The room appointments are direct from the 1970's...after staying in a modern hotel the week prior, it was like being in a time machine. It would be different if it were restored to it's original flare, but for the most part it screams bad decision to remodel 35 years ago. No flat screens here, 22" old CRT's from the 80's hidden away in armoires...not even a movie channel, just the very basic channels. The bathroom, while large is on the bland side. Furniture is on the worn side and the desk in ridiculous shape. No store in the hotel, or anywhere for that matter for blocks and blocks.

On the plus side:
There's a free breakfast but after you have it more than once it's no big deal. There is free wireless internet but it's a bit slow. The beds were clean and comfortable with plenty of pillows. Very good restaurant on the property with reasonable prices. Friendly staff. In a safe and convenient location.

No offense, when/if in Ogden again, I believe I will try a different property.

Room 301-overlooking Washington St (US 89) and park. Very clean and had all the
usual amenities. Plenty of room to relax. Rooms facing Washington have some street noise ; we were there on" movie night in the park" so could hear some of the sound track. The free breakfast was quite good but not extensive. Free parking is a plus. Hotel is at
east end of historic 25th St; nice area to walk and dine. Had excellent seafood linguini
and gorgonzola ale soup at Roosters on the courtyard patio.
We would stay here again. Nice to know Choice Hotels has this level of accomodations,
especially compared to some of their offerings.

Room Tip: rooms facing Washinton may have a noise issue

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed breakfast and the parking. During the summer the amphitheater across the street has a concert and movie series that is free to the public and generally finishes up by about 10 p.m.

Hope to see you again soon.

Have a Great Day!

I actually stayed at this hotel over 9 years ago, but to this day have been trying to get back. I was there on business for 1 week, & didn't want to leave. I have been trying to get my Wife to go back with me every year.
It was also during the Sundance Film fest so the sites, activities, quiet location, & all the amenities where EXCELLENT.
The greatest thing I can't forget was the staff they were absolutely the best personable, friendly, very helpful with area recommendations. The next on my memorable list was the huge Beautiful rooms.....I think I am gonna start crying. Hopefully you haven't change from the reviews, still working on getting back.
Not far from Ski resort area's, less then an hour to Salt Lake, & a little further to Park City cool or what.........Incredible place, & people out there in Utah, from a Eastern City Dude

Thank you for the lovely review. It is nice to hear that you enjoyed our staff, we think they are great too. We agree the Sundance Film Festival is a great reason to visit Ogden. It is fun to watch the films at the Historic Peery's Egyptian Theater. Then stroll down Historic 25th Street and explore the shops, galleries and great restaurants. All our rooms are still large suites and we have added MacCool's, an Irish Pub just off the lobby, since the last time you stayed with us. Hope to see you and your wife soon. Have a wonderful day!

Understand: this is an old building but that's part of it's charm. The staff were very friendly. The room was a suite with TV in the bedroom and in the living room. Loved getting a free pass to the Gold's Gym a few blocks away. Loved getting free breakfast at MacCools (restaurant in the bldg.) on the weekend. The location is great for walking to historic 25th Street. Pretty speedy free wi-fi as well.

Room Tip: Rooms were well described on their reservation si.

We stayed at the Ben Lomond Suites this week for a couple of nights and thought it was a nice hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The breakfast in the morning was great. Also, there is a nice Irish style pub (MacCool's) inside the hotel that was really good. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel if you're in Ogden.

Breakfast was hot and plentiful, with lots to choose from. The front desk sells discounted lift tickets to the local ski resorts. The staff all were very friendly and helpful. Historic Ogden is one block down on 25th street, where you will find a variety of shops and several very good restaurants. The covered parking was a bonus. I highly recommend staying here.
