Yes, it's a fabulous location. Unbeatable for the area, and much better than Goulding's, where we spent our last trip. The room was decent, the bathroom large (though the tub is amazingly shallow), the heater efficient against the 10-degree cold.

Would stay there again, with the following knowledge: be sure to request the highest numbered room available, on whichever floor you are assigned. The lower numbers (I was in Room 306) have part of one of the mittens blocked by the restaurant/trading post and its curved walkway. I had plans to photograph the vista through desk, the evening, and dawn but was thwarted by the architecture.

I immediately returned to the front desk to politely ask for a room with an unobstructed view. The desk clerk said I should have made a request in the notes field that I wanted a good view. I did point out that, with a name like THE VIEW, the assumption was that there were no bad views.

Also worth noting: my "starview" room on the third floor, which was $25 more, had a balcony smaller than those below, with no room for a table. Would stay there again, but -- to be safe -- would request a room numbered 120, 220, 320 or higher, and would not pay more for the top floor.

It's hard to know what to say about The View. It's a really basic and ordinary place to stay, but it's location is unparalleled.

What's good:
* the location can't be beat. You don't need to go further than your room for great sunrise/sunset views.
* Price is reasonable

What's not:
* Management is amateurish. We asked about tours of the 17 mile Monument Valley loop at check in - we were told "just walk outside and ask someone. We don't have anything to do with tours." You cannot charge meals in the restaurant to your room. What's with this?
* Finish in the rooms is cheap. The beds are too soft, they squeak, they move around. The toilet doesn't have a lid! Our door lock was so loose as to be insecure. The fuss associated with turning on the fridge or microwave (you can't plug in both at once, and when you arrive the fridge is off) is just too difficult. There isn't a sofa or armchair.
* You are told that it is non-smoking - great - and at check in are asked to initial that part of the agreement - yet the balconies have ashtrays! Do they think these are not brought into the room? A guest in the room above us called to his companion to "bring the ashtray in" so he could smoke. They need to choose one or the other - the current system pleases no-one.
* The food in the restaurant really isn't good. I am a loss to understand other reviews that praise it. It is high fat and not very fresh. I can understand the logistics problems in getting supplies, but I can't understand why people would rate it highly.
* The prices in the gift shop are breathtakingly high.

But - it has the view. Of course many many people will stay there - they have an outstanding position, so they can get away with providing a very ordinary product because of it. And this is an objective they are meeting very successfully. What a pity - it could be outstanding. They are wasting the potential shamefully.

After years of going back and forth to Kayenta (23 miles), there is a place to stay at Monument Valley besides Gouldings, which I never cared for. The hotel is right at the entrance. Every room has a view of the valley. We watched the sun and moon rise from our room overlooking the Mittens, etc. Spectacular. The place is not 5-star, more like 3, but very nice, clean, and in a perfect spot. The restaurant is adequate- again not 5-star but good food and clean.

The reason you go to Monument Valley is for the views, and it’s the same reason you want to stay at The View hotel. Where else can you wake up to see the sun rise over the valley without even getting out of your bed? Every room faces east and every room has a deck to view the sunrise over this spectacular valley. The hotel is less than a year old so everything is very new and the staff is helpful. The restaurant in the hotel serves well prepared southwester type food with good portions and very reasonable prices. This is good because there isn’t much else to do after the sun goes down. So plan on waking up early, taking a tour or go on a hike, watch the sunset, have a meal and then go to bed early.
I highly recommend taking a tour with a local guide since you’re able to get closer to the monuments and go to areas that are not accessible any other way. The dirt road through the valley is a good overview if you don’t have time for a tour but I recommend the tour.

Very cozy hotel. Views are stunning. Breakfast was good. Rooms are clean and well decorated.
Not a 5 start place but equal to the likes of Holiday Inn.
Not too much visitor info provided but they are still new I guess still getting used to visitors.
