I cant imagine anybody not enjoying this hotel , with the exception of the inn at furnace creek it is as good or better than any hotel at any state park we have visited. Rooms were clean and modern and we found the food to be really good. If a person shows up with a chip on their shoulder because of the price I can see them not having a good time this facility is nice but it isnt a 5 star resort but I have been most places in the world and never seen a more dramatic view . I dont imagine people stay here for more than a couple of nights so the expense and lack of snack food really shouldnt be a big problem.I would go back here in a heart beat and if you have the chance you shouldnt miss it . If you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle hire and follow a private guide from the stands outside the hotel the stuff the show you on private tours is priceless . We found the gift shop to be a good deal on expensive jewelry after some negotiations. I am writing this review now because I was amazed that anybody could bad mouth the place.

The name, the View, says it all. We stayed one night at this hotel. It was a bit expensive considering there is no pool or hot tub here, but it is right in front of Monument Valley. We had only one hour of sleep the night before, and wanted to get right to bed when we got there. But when we went out to our balcony, we were simply awed by the view and my husband had to sit there and take it all in for at least an hour before he went to bed. The rooms are done in earth tones with simple furnishings. They give you $5 coupons towards their breakfast buffet. The breakfast buffet was okay with fruit, eggs, muffins and they bring you breakfast meats. The same view is in the restaurant. We got up early and watched the sunrise which is fabulous from the outside patio. The gift shop is well stocked and there is a museum below the gift shop which was very interesting and I think it was free.

The view from the View hotel is really stunning but if you scratch the surface, many things don't add up. I stayed here one night at the beginning of Jan. 2014 and had a room at the end of the 2nd floor. The views from the balcony, in late afternoon and early morning, are really breathtaking but the hotel needs much more attention. It was established only 6 years ago but already shows a much higher age, probably because of over usage. Two wall sockets in my room didn't work and very spotty WiFi is only provided in the lobby. Even there, I had many problems getting a reliable internet connection. The hotel provides room only - dinner is an extra $15-$20 (per person) and breakfast is an additional $9. These charges, with around $150 per room, are not reasonable. If you have the time and can travel here from Kayenta, it might be a better deal to stay there.

Over 4000 miles from Utah in the UK my husband gazed at his Monument Valley screensaver at work and said to himself 'I'm want to see that one day!'.

He was 60 at the end of December and stood on the balcony at The View with a grin that the Cheshire Cat would be proud of.

We had one night at this hotel / motel and were completely satisfied with our huge, twin queen 'star' room. Believe me after the overpriced, tiny, scruffy room at the El Tovar this was really luxurious!

An earlier post said that the staff should be more outgoing. Yes the receptionist was quietly spoken but she was efficient and informative. We had arrived on New Year's Day and the self drive around the park was closed. She suggested that we go to the booth on the far side of the car park where local guides offer trips and gave us a list if would would prefer to phone some.

It was like a taxi rank at the booth. Our native guide (King Arthur) did not come cheap, $85 per person, but we got him to ourselves and the four of us piled into his minivan. Once out on the track we were very happy to be driven around because the track was very rough and I'm sure we would have damaged our hire car! King described all the sandstone buttes and told us some history of his people. We had taken the extra trip where he took us off the main track. When he sang to us in a natural rock amphitheatre it was quite magical.

It was dark when we returned to the View. After freshening up in our well equipped bathroom we headed down to the restaurant. Our server Kelly was a delightful young lady with a lovely smile plus she showed a genuine interest in our meal choices and offered suggestions. Unlike the majority of waiting staff we encountered during our holiday Kelly did not seem interested in a tip. In fact we had to go and find her on our way out of the restaurant to hand her some money! The food was good, this isn't a fine dining experience, more of a cafe but it hit the spot and we went to bed well fed with alarms set for 0645 to watch the dawn break over the Mittens.

It got very cold out there on the balcony but a cup of hot coffee helped keep the chills out whilst watching the sun come up. We checked out after a browse around the large gift shop and didn't bother with the buffet breakfast because we wanted to get back out on our road trip.

We liked The View very much and found it to be excellent value for money considering what an amazing position it has.

Room Tip: We had a star room so that we do some star gazing!

We stayed there recently on Dec 31st and Jan 1st. Of course, it is in a stunning area of the Southwest ,and the designer did their best to make it blend in with the environment. We stayed on the 3rd floor, but honestly any room would have been fine, view wise. The room was fine, it was very clean and modern, not fancy by any means, but perfectly adequate. There was a small refrigerator and microwave in the room and the bathroom was nice and large. The maid was very nice about leaving us extra coffee packets when we asked for some. Service at the front desk seemed to be dependent on who was working; some of the clerks were more friendly than others, but all were professional. We were told that Wi-Fi was only available in the lobby but got a good signal in our room too Parking was very good.

My only two real complaints were about the restaurant and availability of drinks/snacks. The breakfast was a buffet and was was good, fairly run of the mill for a restaurant, and there was a little coffee bar at the cashier area that sold coffee drinks, cocoa, bottled sodas, etc. The service in the restaurant was barely adequate, but the servers were friendly. Not a huge variety on the menu, and it was really just coffee shop food, barely. The green chili and the pozole were pretty good, as was the hamburger, but everything else was forgettable. Pretty expensive too, but understandable given the remote location.

Another thing was that there is no place to buy snacks like candies or chips. The gift shop didn't sell them, and the coffee kiosk didn't either and closed early. We had to drive a few miles to Gouldings which had a decent small grocery store and a convenience store/gas station

We enjoyed our stay and would come back (it is certainly nicer than Goudlings, which looks very run down), but kept commenting that it would be wonderful if someone could come and work with the staff and the restaurant to improve the service and food. The staff were generally friendly, but may not come from a culture where customer service is understood. Most of the visitors were Asian and Europeans; it would be nice if this were more of a "destination" for Americans who could appreciate this beautiful part of their country.

Room Tip: I don't think the premium view rooms we paid for were worth the extra; any room at this hotel will have a gorgeous view. I would ask for a room away from the ice machine, which is right in the hall and sort of noisy
