“The only place to stay !”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

We didn't mind the relatively high room rate as this is a unique place to stay - it was worth it just for the sunset, the sunrise and the stars ! Rooms were very nice with authentic artwork and decoration. Yes the TV and wifi weren't wonderful - but who cares in a place like this. It was a memorable stay in a wonderful place. The restaurant was a bit sparse but the food was good - we tried the Navajo lamb stew. Would recommend a tour with a Navajo guide so that you can see more of Monument Valley than you would on your own.

Room Tip: All rooms have a balcony and face the same way but the top floor has best view of the stars.

We were initially concerned about the impact this hotel would have on the Valley (having been there twice previously ). However, we were amazed at how it blended into the landscape. The hotel is simple excellent. All rooms have a balcony and look out over the valley they are very well equipped and very comfortable . Yes, it is expensive to stay there but it is worth every penny and we would not consider anywhere else now. The restaurant overlooks the valley and has a variety of meals to choose from including some of the local specialities. All the staff we came into contact with we're extremely friendly and seemed genuinely interested in how our stay was going. Most of the trips seemed to meet in the hotel lobby which made them easy to access. Well done everyone, an excellent hotel that we would happily recommend to anyone,

Room Tip: A top floor room gives uninterrupted views of the night sky.

Wow, just incredible, prices are a little high but the sunrise makes it truly worth it. The room was nice and large with a refrigerator and good sized bathroom. There was a great balcony to sit and just soak in the magnificent view of Monument
Valley. The hotel seemed to have an air of peace and serenity emanating from the valley below. The restaurant was OK but with limited offerings, there is a buffet breakfast. The gift shop had a large selection of Native American items, the sales associates work on commission so are eager to please. Prices were high but everything was on sale and as a guest of the hotel you get an additional 10% off which brings the prices into the fair range. If you are visiting
Monument Valley a night at the hotel with sunset, sunrise and stargazing is a must.

It would be difficult to place a hotel in a more scenic location. All rooms face the Monument Valley "mittens." Our room was clean and comfortable. One downside is that only two queen beds are available in most rooms. The other negative is the price, which is quite high. The lobby is attractive, filled with Navajo rugs and kachinas, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We were told many of the staff are Navajo students, so they tend to be quite young. The restaurant featured interesting Navajo dishes, though the service was terrible. We ate five meals there, and it was not unusual for our waitress to simply disappear for ten or fifteen minutes. On a couple occasions I had to get up and go speak to a waitress to ask for coffee or the check. But if you're not in a hurry, the food is pretty good. Be sure to try the Navajo frybread. Monument Valley tours meet in the lobby, so as the only hotel in the park, it's the logical place to stay. One caution: as part of the Navajo nation, no alcohol is sold at the hotel or surrounding areas. If you want a glass of wine in the evening, you will need to bring your own.

Room Tip: All rooms have a great view, but the third floor is quieter, albeit a bit more expensive.

Our first impression was that we were going in the service entrance of the building: not much of a welcome. Once inside, the lobby was very attractive. The young man we first met behind the desk had no affect and was not very welcoming. Everyone else we dealt with over the next two days was congenial. The rooms are basic hotel rooms with noisy air-conditioners, but the view can't be beat.We were on the second floor ( used the cramped elevator only when moving our luggage) and had wi-fi all the time.
Had a delicious lunch with HUGE sandwiches on tasty Indian fry bread. The buffet breakfast was a big disappointment - substandard fare.

If you go to Monument Valley, there is only one place to stay, the View Hotel. The views are spectacular (hence the name) and the sunrise from our balcony was amazing. The food in the restaurant is better than it needs to be, and we highly recommend the Navajo tacos.

There are many good things to say about this hotel. The front desk staff was very efficient and welcoming. The room was a little small but was nicely furnished and very clean. TV reception was poor. And yes, the view from your private patio was excellent.

What's missing? In-room wi-fi for 1 thing. With spotty 3G coverage, wi- fi is pretty nice to have when traveling and firming up the next day itinerary. It also would have been nice to have a clock in the room. Just a simple clock. When was the last time you stayed in the US when you weren't provided a clock? While wake up calls were provided, have you ever wanted to know what time it was if awakened in the middle of the night?

So pluses and minuses but big minuses at these prices. I doubt if we will ever go back to Monument Valley, but if we did, we would not stay the night. The ownership of this hotel has not made simple investments to make a stay appropriate for the prices charged.

Room Tip: Stay close to the lobby for a shorter walk to wi-fi.
