“Better than I thought”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to the reception office at Gouldings. We were greeted by a very friendly office staff upon arrival. We were a few hours early for check in at 2 PM so we drove across the highway to Monument Valley National Park to get a preview of the magnificent geological wonders that greet one's eyes. After a leisurely lunch at the View Hotel, the only property within the boundaries of the park, we drove back to Gouldings. Check in was fast and efficient. We had requested a room in the main building on the upper floor. The view from our room is an unobstructed one of the buttes and landscape that has made Monument Valley famous and a favorite of film makers. The room itself if very comfortable with a king size bed which provided a very good nights rest. The rooms are clean, relatively modern and well maintained. While the View Hotel would have been preferred, only insofar as its in the park and has a much better view of the Valley, I would not hesitate to stay at Goulding again.

Room Tip: Main building, upper floor is the only way to go.

Goulding's Lodge management and staff is so pleased to hear that this guest enjoyed their stay with us at historic Goulding's Lodge. Established in the 1920s as a Navajo Trading post, Goulding's Lodge believes in carrying on the Goulding's legacy of good old American Southwestern hospitality. Built at the base of a towering red rock cliff, Goulding's Lodge offers the guest a panoramic view of the western border of Monument Valley. Thank you so much for your comments.

When you take the time to book a specific type of room because you are travelling with kids and you find out they try to give you a worse room, they lie to you and when you complain they change the room they have assigned, you know something is wrong.

Very rude staff.

Room nice and clean with super views. Freezing pool, no breakfast included in price. Poor WIFI.

I was impressed by how this place exceeded my expectations. Ok. The rooms were a bit basic but were extremely comfortable and spacious and also there was free (yet a bit slow) wi-fi available in the business centre just opposite the accomodation. Also the staff was very friendly towards my needs as somebody came over almost immediately when I struggled to get the hair dryer to work and I had to phone for help. Also the view of Monument Valley is beautiful from the balcony/verandahs.

Goulding's Lodge management and staff is so pleased to hear that this guest enjoyed their stay with us at historic Goulding's Lodge. Established in the 1920s as a Navajo Trading post, Goulding's lodge has a long and varied history. The original trading post is now a free museum containing a large collection of Monument Valley treasure and movie memorabilia. A stay at Goulding's Lodge definitely give the guest the true American Southwestern experience. Thank you for taking the time to share your Goulding's experience with us...

Excellent location for Monument Valley. Hotel built against a rock wall, all rooms have balcony and look out over the Valley, ideal for watching the sunset. Restaurant on the complex was reasonably priced with a variety of good food.

My family and I stayed here on the 20th of June. My parents had a cabin, and I was camping with my boyfriend.
Although the cabin is for 6 people it gets crowded easily, but it's perfect for 4 people to hang around in it. There is some stuff to make food, bowls, a mini fridge and fire starters. The showers are good, and in the cabin, we had some shampoo and soap, which made us feel almost at the hotel!!!
The view is lovely outside. There is a table to enjoy your food outside, and a BBQ at the side of the cabin.
The staff has been very nice and helpful.
I would gladly return here. It is a great place to enjoy Monument Valley, and a nice starting point for a morning run as well, before facing all the others tourists down in the park!

Goulding's campground management and staff is so pleased to hear that this guest and family enjoyed their stay in one of the Goulding's camping cabins. Equipped with small kitchens and bathrooms, the camping cabins are a great way to "rough it" while enjoying the beauty of the Monument Valley area. Thank you for your comments...

This is a great place to stay, so convenient to Monument Park. You can see some of them from your room. The lodge is built up against an immense rock wall. And if you are there at sunset, just look across the great expanse and watch the sun go down. The lodge complex has a restaurant, gift store, theater, museum and John Wayne's cabin from filming the great John Ford wsterns here. The rooms are spacious with great views. They are clean. The restaurant is on the upper level as is most of the other items. Within walking distance are a gas station and a convenience store.

Room Tip: There do not appear to be elevators, so get a room ob the first floor.

Goulding's for all intents and purposes owns the camping business (as well as most everything else) around Monument Valley. They certainly focused their efforts on RV camping. The tenting area is basically an up for grabs. If you are traveling with a group, this could be great as you have a wide open space with soft sand to organize how you will. If you are the single tent finding a spot among a big traveling group, it can be a little rough. There are a rag tag collection of picnic benches without a bit of shade downhill from the RV's and a small bathroom which was more or less maintained. This would have been fine for a BLM or National Park campsite, but as the most expensive campsite in a three week trip around Utah, it was a little bit of highway robbery.

Room Tip: Get there early to grab a spot on the perimeter of the tent area so you can have your own space. Si...
