Really enjoyed our recent visit to Tarahumara Mexican Restaurant. Located just a couple of blocks from the main part of Midway's Main Street, Tarahumara offers several different types of dining options that is clearly enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike. There's a bakery/coffee shop, a cantina/bar/restaurant, a large patio, and a window-order/table service section. Frankly, it's a little confusing to a newcomer, but the end results were great.
We chose to order our food -- and drinks, there is a full bar -- at the "self-service" section and sit on the decent-sized patio behind the restaurant. Food and drinks are brought to your table, so it's essentially like a regular restaurant experience, except that you pay in advance. (I think they'd be better off doing traditional table service as we had a tiny bit of sticker shock for our lunch for two >$50 with drinks. We woudn't have noticed as much had we paid after our tasty meal.)
The menu is a cut above most Mexican restaurants in Utah with some real variety of offerings and some lighter, fresher fare. All of our food was excellent. The salsa bar was not such a big draw for us, but it was nice to have a choice of condiments for our pork and lamb soft tacos.
We took advantage of the bakery/coffee shop after our main meal. Slightly inconvenient to have to walk through restaurant and outside to the bakery to fetch the desserts and coffee, but the options they had were very good and overall it was still a plus. Desserts and coffee for two came to $11, so our whole meal was almost $65. A little high if you're taking the kids, I suppose.
We like this place. It's a little quirky but so local in feel and good in quality that we plan to return.
