Mexican Hat was not a place I would want to visit again, but fortunately, the Hat Rock Inn was a mini-oasis in a scary little town. Don't expect to find anything to eat in town - the steakhouse only served steak or burgers without buns - but this hotel was actually nice given the surrounding environment. Unfortunately the Wifi did not work but the room was clean, quiet, the bed was very comfortable and we used Mexican Hat as a jumping off place to visit Canyonlands National Park and Monument Valley. It was convenient, but pricey. I would choose another town in the future, but the Hat Rock Inn was definitely the nicest place in town and would be recommended if you had to stay in Mexican Hat.

Nice hotel in this tiny little place. This was my 2nd visit to this town in two years. The hotels has very nice rooms compared to what it looks from outside. Hot shower, coffee maker, refrigerator in rooms. Extra towels. Comfy bed. The back side of the hotel has a nice picnic area facing red mountains across a river. Very scenic spot. I would definitely stay here again and again.

Little pricey. But that's what it is in peak season.

What a dump!
Mexican Hat is a very small place, without even a simple grocery store, We stayed there when we planned to visit national monument valley and we regret it.

About the motel. $106 isn't cheap when you don't really get much. The free internet didn't work, the coffee maker in the room didn't work. The shower vent was so noisy and the room looked terrible.

There is nothing to do here, don't stay in this town, and in this motel.

Mexican Hat is a small desert town - on first viewing Hat Rock Inn looks a bit basic but it actually comprises small, motel accommodation that we discovered was quite comfortable. Front desk was very friendly and helpful with suggestions of where to go for dinner. Rooms were clean and included a coffee percolator. Limited TV channels available.

We had planned on staying at "The View", but according to the woman at the "gate' there was probably "no room at the Inn" (and she wouldn't let us go and check, without paying the Park Fee). So we drove on, and eventually arrived at Mexican Hat.

From external appearances, it didn't look too promising. There were no other guest cars there (they arrived a couple of hours later). I asked to see the room (not sure if the woman at the desk liked me asking to "look at a room") - she wasn't the most personable person I have met. She sent us to a ground floor room, at the back of the property. Thankfully it looked better inside than it did outside (they are doing landscaping this summer).

The room was clean and basic and of average size for this type of room. For just under $105 (including tax), I would have expected more, compared to what I have been paying at other hotels/motels on this holiday. There was no fridge/microwave, nor was there any breakfast offered. There was however a coffee maker and tissues. Possibly the room may have been renovated recently, as the carpet was in good condition and nothing looked tired or worn. Only power outlet I could see to plug my computer into (that would reach from the table), was a power board dangling on the side of the tv.

The bathroom was small. Soap and moisturizer etc were in a dispenser at the sink (outside bathroom), and also on the wall opposite the shower head, in the bathroom. From the looks, it appears no-one/very few use it. The bathroom fan was very loud (as was the toilet when it flushed). Bathroom light could have been brighter. There were however bright lights over the sink (outside bathroom), and also a good light over the table.

The beds were fairly good, and thankfully there was wi-fi internet, which worked ok (but couldn't quite hold up to a skype phone-call)!!.

While it is in a quiet location, I don't recommend you stay on the ground/1st floor, as you can hear every footstep your neighbors above take (and I'm guessing to the left and right of you too), including walking up the external stairs. It sounded like a herd of elephants at times, and I was wondering how so few people could make so much foot noise. I was also woken up in the morning by the foot noise of the people above, and cars starting up etc. There was also a bit of 'banging' (no idea what that was), and the usual shower noise of others.

I think the Hat Rock Inn has potential to be a popular place to stay, if it added a breakfast (they have a nice area that could be used for this), and if they added a fridge and/or microwave and replaced the shampoo etc dispenser with individual soap/shampoos. Increase the quality of the extras, make it 'special', and make the outside more inviting, and they may find more people flocking to stay there, rather than just staying there as a last resort.
