Expensive but Still Nice. Clean, comfortable, quiet, appliances all worked as expected. Convenient to other businesses in town. Stayed 2 nights & have no complaint or even suggestion for improvement. Pool & pool area are really attractive.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are closer to the pool & ice machine, probably even quieter than the front & more private. Our front room was still excellent.

We had booked to stay here, to visit Monument Valley, it was a very nice choice. We liked the ambience of the place, very rustic and quaint. We are from New Zealand, and loved the evening meal at the " Swinging Steak" Bar B Q, an experience not to be missed !
Our visit was in May 2011, not as below.

This hotel is located next to the San Juan river, with excellent views of the river and the surrounding red rocks. There is a small seating area overlooking the river with a fire ring. Room was clean and comfortable and the new pool with hot tub was a welcome surprise.

I notice others complaining about the price, but my opinion is this: it takes a lot to build/maintain/supply a hotel in the middle of nowhere. I was glad to pay the price for the seclusion, location, amenities and scenery.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so keep in mind that you'll have to haul your bags up the stairs if you get a second floor room. Go for the riverside rooms for best views and quiet.

The Hat Rock Inn is a reasonable motel that charges 3 star prices. The linens are clean, shower's good, the room had a microwave, refrigerator, and flat screen TV. There is supposedly WiFi, but it doesn't work well in the evening, probably due to lack of bandwidth.

Having a second floor room was fine, until we realised the noise other guests make walking on the balcony outside. It is made of old loose boards and their creaking and groaning reverberates through the rooms. There is no paved carpark, only a sloping graded lot.

Unfortunately the price is out of kilter with the offer. It is not a 3 star hotel. Competition is needed. Of course its one great asset is location.

There's not much in Mexican hat so with limited choices hotels charge more than they'd be worth elsewhere. The room was average and the location nice. Be sure to ask for a room facing the river. But I thought the price was high for what you got. Unfortunately you're close to Monument Valley so I think that drives the price up. I'd stay here again but only if I had to absolutely had to stay in Mexican Hat. However if you can make reservations early, about 20 miles away is the Valley of the Gods B & B which is a great place to stay in a fabulous location for only about ten bucks more.

Room Tip: Stay in room facing river
