We didn´t stay overnight, but we sure come to dinner every time we´re visiting with our groups of European bikers - that is twice every year - and enjoy the real good steaks and burgers and the atmosphere of the place. It´s not cheap but you´ll enjoy the food and the chef, cooking the steaks and burgers on his very special swinging grill. The chef is really a character! So are the boys in his crew. We will come back!

There isn't much to choose from around Monument Valley. However, this place was charming, affordable, quirky and comfortable. Just a short drive from the valley.

Our room was clean and cute. Small (what they call "cozy" in apartment searches), but not ridiculously cramped. Clean bedding and towels. Clean bathroom. Plenty of parking (like that is an issue in the middle of nowhere). Felt safe (safe enough to wander around in the dark I might add).

The place has a pool, meandering children's toys and gardening equipment, stray dogs (always a plus for me) and a John Wayne themed lobby (also a plus).Across the street is a gas station.

The restaurant was just another perk. Again, not much to choose from restaurant-wise or menu-wise. The meal was memorable because of how simple it was and how it was prepared (the swinging steak show is amusing).

I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else should I visit Monument Valley again. But I like little Mom and Pop places with a story behind them. No Goulding's Lodge for me.

I thought it was going to be different, something special. It is, but in a bad way. 40 $ for not even a tenderloin (filet pur) is way overpriced. The swing is original but it destroys your expensive steak: the meat makes direct contact with the flames. If you want a medium steak, you get a charcoaled one. The sidedish is missing inspiration as well, I'd expect better for the price tag. On the upside, the atmosphere is very good when I was there late at night: people singing and nice conversations.

If you plan on staying near Monument Valley, you are stuck with overpriced motels in Kayenta to the south or Mexican Hat, to the north. This property is a former bar that has been converted to a small motel. Rooms are undistinguished and overpriced. Wi fi was very pokey. However, the property has a very good outdoor restaurant with grill that is very popular . My dinner was excellent.

The property has character. It may close in the winter..

The room we had was OK, clean but a bit tired. Not a very friendly welcome at reception ( or for the rest of the stay for that matter ) when asked if we could buy a beer were told "this is a hotel, not a bar ! " Didn't use The Swinging Steak as menu very limited And expensive and no breakfasts, much better down the road at the San Juan Inn ( and friendlier ). Pool was good although a little small, seating area outside nice but furniture a bit grubby. It was a two night stop over so served it's purpose.

Room Tip: All rooms are on first floor so need to be able to get up stairs.

We were tired after a long day and slept well, thought the place a bit run down, it could be lovely if tidied up a bit. No internet connection and no breakfast so a bit expensive, I know you are paying for the location. We had an early start and no one was about and reception locked up even though it was 9.30 am, didn't use the restaurant so can't comment on it. On the whole its overpriced for the state its in, if tidy it would be well worth it.

Room on the first floor was large clean and quiet, lovely extra was the swimming pool which as we stayed two nights and most people only stayed one we had to ourselves for the morning of the second day,the area surrounding the pool resembled a building site and needed tidying up.

As it was a Motel we considered the price to be on the high side.

The first night we went to the swinging steak and were thouroughly disappointed, we opted for the burgers which were tasteless accompanied by a slice of bread a salad which consisted solely of lettuce and finally some tasteless beans. we did not return the second night.

Room Tip: Room at the rear might be beneficial
