We stayed here three nights, and ate our morning and evening meals here. We appreciated the motel very much. The tables and chairs outside overlooking the San Juan River are a great idea. We sat there in the afternoon after our sightseeing to relax and read. This is a good place to visit Monument Valley from. Also the Goosenecks National Park and the town of Bluff.

Our overnight stay was pleasant. The room was very basic, no frills, but I wasn't expecting anything frilly, either. PROs- Reasonable cost, clean room, large shower with glass doors, and the beds were VERY comfortable. CONs - Small TV on a low-sitting bookcase, which made it hard to see, but we were more interested in getting some much needed rest after a very long, tiring day. The view of the San Juan river and canyon below was beautiful. The restaurant was OK, nothing extraordinary but good food nonetheless, and staff were friendly. If you're expecting foo-foo, and room service, go somewhere else. If you want a clean, comfortable room, at a great price, this is your place. Would make a great home base if you're spending time in the Monument Valley area.

Room Tip: If climbing stairs is no problem for you, (no elevator) choose an upper level (2nd story) room to av...

I liked this inn. It is superbly located overlooking the San Juan River and is as close to Monument Valley( 22 miles distant) as likely to afford a stay. Even then the nightly rates were higher than I was used to paying and so only stayed the one night. However, in truth you will not get better for the price. No difficulty in finding it either, as must drive past the San Juan Inn if heading north, and just the other side of the river's bridge.
My room was large and comfortable, with everything clean and working, and I had no complaints with it. Bed mattress was firm and I enjoyed a good nights sleep .Place also oozed a degree of character, and there were resting areas to sit out in at end of balcony landing. You can also tell when a motel is efficiently run, by the quick responses you get without hesitation. Restaurant on site was good value with food served really tasty. Also service here deserved merit. Would have been easy to take advantage of guests through excessive meal costs, but not the case as all the menu was reasonably priced. I well recommend this inn therefore.

San Juan Inn is a good, basic motel in a spectacular setting. Step outside your room and you look across the San Juan River onto impressive rock formations located on the Navajo Reservation. There are wild burros on those rocks and you hear them at night (not dangerous, though). One can walk along the path by the river that leads from the motel though there are quite a few rock obstructions on the path. The motel itself backs onto huge rocks that somewhat overwhelm the building. So the visuals are most impressive. The motel is about 20 miles from Monument Valley, and seems to be the best value for the money in the area. There are a couple of motels closer to Monument Valley that are two or three times as expensive (The View and also Gouldings). However, if you are in Mexican Hat to see the rocks then why pay considerably more? Rooms in the San Juan are about $100. per night. The extremely limited motel competion in Mexican Hat seems to be of lower quality than the San Juan Inn. The motel restaurant opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. The meals offered are on the bland side but tasty enough. The Navajo Taco is the local specialty but lacks the spiceciness of the Mexican kind. The staff are friendly folks and will get your breakfast in a hurry if you like an early bird start to see the sights - and many visitors do. There is quite a rush to get going shortly after 7 a.m. to see Monument Valley or to hike in the nearby parks with the big rocks. Overall, this is a very good value.

Room Tip: The second floor rooms have the best view of the river and the walkway in front of them makes for a...

I checked into the San Juan Inn late in the afternoon without a reservation and felt lucky because the new morning the "no vacancy" sign was lit. I thought the motel was a little pricey (the woman at check in said their prices were the lowest in the area--though they are lower than those at the View and at Gouldings, I'd be surprised to find that they were lower than other Mexican Hat motels I'd passed). Plenty of towels and nice toiletries were provided, but there was no hairdryer. The motel has a small gift shop and a restaurant. For me, the nicest part of the motel was the exterior, with numerous patio tables and lounge chairs overlooking the peaceful San Juan River.

My 2 grandsons stayed in the large yurt associated with the San Juan Inn and loved it. The Yurt is large and roomy....2 daybeds and one queen bed available with a small private porch in front; the yurt is very well appointed and a new and novel experience for the boys; even though close to the highway, it is very quiet. Mexican Hat is only about 20 minutes from Monument Valley; a small restaurant is part of the establishment; the food is of diner variety but I feel the enviornment with the pool table, chocolate malts and burgers just adds to the charm of the experience. The staff is very friendly and does not make the diner feel rushed; since there are very few dining choices in this very isolated area....I was very happy to have a clean, reasonably priced, charming atmosphere and the big city 11 year olds thought the pool table "was cool."

Convenient to Monument Valley - about 20 miles. We booked in Australia from a web site and glad we did. The Inn was full - literally and we had one night in the two bed aparment above reception which was really great. Spacious, immaculately clean, had a full kitchen and a great sunset from the balcony. Second night was in a Yert just back up the hill. Very spacious, cooking was a microwave which we didn't use as the meals in the restaurant were really good. We still can't decide which was better, the apartment or the Yert. Watch out for the restaurant, the meals were yummy and HUGE so take an appetite with you; hint - the Navaho Taco is to die for, BUT share it between two !! All the staff were really lovely and friendly and bubbly Krysta (apologies for the spelling) was really great and happy to talk about her Navaho heritage. The Mexican Hat rock formation is only 5 mins away and can be viewed from the Yert. If you vehicle allows, well worth driving off road for a mile or so and get an upclose view..

Room Tip: Good idea to book, the two room apartment above reception is great as is the Yert (there are 3 so gr...
