“Nice location with some upgrades”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

The Monument Valley area does not have many places to stay to choose from other than going into the park at higher prices. San Juan Inn is located along the river by the bridge in a nice secluded area. It appears they have upgraded and refurbished. Two story walk up. A nice new deck is on the second floor to watch the river and sunset and stars as well as benches placed along the fencing by the river edge. We had a king room on the second story that has very nice Navajo accents, very clean, and fresh paint. They have a small fitness room and air conditioning, however, no pool,no hair dryers or clock radios. The grounds are clean and nice landscape. There are not many places to eat in Mexican Hat, but, they have a small restaurant Olde Bridge Grille which has Navajo dishes, sandwiches, steaks, chops, breakfast, lunch, dinner. Good prices good meals and handy being right there on the hotel grounds. They will serve alcohol if you are purchasing a meal. The Trading Post is where you check in and you can do some shopping also. They have a small section that has mini cold food items and beverages. This is a good place to stay if you want to rest after driving or visiting the Monument Valley all day.

Room Tip: 2nd floor is walk up only and all look out over the river with nice views.

Hotel lays along the Juan River, very peaceful. Rooms are big, with 2 double beds and 1 single.
Front desk people were very nice. Parking near the room. If you want you can have breakfast and even dine at the inn but we hadn't done that.

This motel was nice. It was nothing special but handy for Monument Valley. It is built into a cliff basically and although we didn't use it, upstairs there is a lovely outdoor covered area that would be nice to sit and watch a sunset from.

We recently spent two nights here while visiting Monument Valley. We were pleasantly surprised by its location on the river and built right up against (almost into) a cliff! They have a great gift shop, a little store, washers and dryers (which we desperately needed!) and a nice restaurant which came in very handy for breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice seating area outside.
the staff was very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel. The price couldn't be beat.

We went to Monument Valley on the summer of 2011. Rented a car and spent almost 3 weeks in the Arizona/Utah/Nevada/CAL area visiting the national parks, and I have to say that this hotel was, by far, the worse in all our trip.
The hotel itself is not that bad, room is ok, with tv and air con, but that's it. In the middle of the dessert, with nowhere else to go and nothing else to see after you have visited the landmarks nearby, you arrive to the hotel only to find not extremely helpful staff, a very run down restaurant and nothing to do (don't have a pool!!) apart from going to the river, which in summer is more like a string of water.
An unpleasent experience, and seriously, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you want to visit Monument valley and Mexican Hat, try to plan your route in a way you don't end up sleeping here!!

This motel is close to Monument Valley and has a nice view, but that's about all there is to recommend it. The room had two lights, one between the beds on a nightstand and one in an alcove holding a desk. Both lightbulbs were 40 watts and did not produce enough light to read by.

There was no refrigerator, microwave, or coffee maker in the room (I think the message was that you had to eat/drink at the restaurant on the premises.). The sink had no stopper (Dangerous if you were contacts, as I do, because contacts can easily be lost down the drain), and the towels were the kind you thought had been outlawed long ago--thin as paper towels and about as absorbent. Had this place been more reasonable, perhaps we wouldn't have minded so many inadequacies, but paying $103.64 a night is outrageous.

After staying in some dodgy, rundown places in northern Arizona, this place was wonderful. Great location next to a river, with views of cliffs, and a place to sit outside. Good restaurant on site. The staff were friendly. I liked the decor of the room, and the price was good.
