“Totally Awesome”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

This gorge is not to be missed if you're in the area. The views of the river and canyons is awesome and if you like to fish, you can hire a guide and staying at one of the resorts is well worth it. Unfortunately, the Visitor Center at the top was closed when I was there, but you can still walk around and see the fantastic views of the gorge and river. Definitely stop at the dam and go in the Visitor Center which was open.

“A nice drive from Wyoming to Utah”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

This long drive can be started in Wyoming or Utah going one way or as a round trip from either. Count on a long day with many photo stops. Be aware that it involves many steep mountain stretches and many winding turns. So if you are making it in an RV or towing a trailer, expect some very tough climbs. Elevations can get up to 9000 feet. In the fall it was a beautiful drive with the many gorgeous yellow aspens. Even though the government parts were closed due to the shutdown, this is predominantly a driving, picture taking trip anyway, it really didn't matter. We drove from Wyoming down into Utah by way of Price, Utah, a very pretty town. From there, we drove the very desolate road to Green River, Utah. This is an enjoyable drive if you are headed from the Utah national parks to the Wyoming and South Dakota parks or vice versa. Expect the drive to take twice as long as the mileage would indicate.

“Flaming Gorge: Utah's Grand Canyon”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

The first impressive thing about this beautiful drive from Wyoming down into Utah and back is that we had never heard of it before. Unfortunately we came upon this side trip at the exact time when the U.S. government was shut down, so many of the opportunities for serious gawking were not available. As a day trip, you can count on about 6 hours to drive the loop with a number of stops for photos, short hikes or lunch. Without the major stops, it was about 4 hours and that included a quick lunch at the Red Canyon Lodge which was, surprisingly, open for business. It's a nice restaurant with a good menu and some gifty things to pick up for souvenirs.
Definitely worth the time just to get a look at the water, the dam, the cliffs, the canyons - it's all quite scenic. I was hoping for some wildlife, but we didn't see any.

“Holy Cow!”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We've been driving for days, following many scenic drives through Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado and Utah. Each day we keep saying it can't get any better but today it did! It's a bit out of the way but well worth it. One of a kind scenery, incredible overlooks, rivers, and geological sites galore! Then there's the dinosaur museum in Vernal, UT plus the most beautiful display of flowers all along main street--a special surprise even though it's October.

Allow a lot of time to take in the awesome beauty of this area. Antelope and mountain goats, red rock formations, and the crystal clear green waters make this a memorable visit. Must see is the dam and the dam tour. Great fishing and boating areas, the lake is extremely large.
