We visited the Flaming Gorge Dam area in late October and found the area to be basically deserted. There are very scenic overlooks and an informative visitors center. You can also take dam tours. It is located on SR191 and really is an eye popping drive. The area looks like it would have amazing boating potential in the summer. Looking forward to returning.

Very cool scenery, very remote location with larger towns 30-50 miles away. Beautiful gorge. Took the scenic sheep creek geological loop and saw some great rock formations. Also great views of the gorge from the Red Canyon visitor center.

I still laugh about how we were driving along and I was going on about why would someone call it flaming gorge and then the scenery changed.
My jaw dropped to my knees and things became so beautiful so quickly it was hard to imagine. The cliff faces and the resevoir all combine for some spectacular pictures.
If in the area a must see sight.

This drive was unexpectablly cool. We anticipated much different terrain but found a great mountain drive over a pretty high mountain pass. It sort of felt like we were on top of the world. On the Utah side of this drive the State has the geology of the area well marked with roadside signs.

This Lake from end to end is something to see. though it is cold most of the year it has great fishing and has wonderful views both from the lake and above it. The Dam tour is fun for families too.
