“Rainbows in stone.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2011

A 6 mile drive down a dirt road brought us to the location of an old Mormon settlement, later made into a movie set. Arson claimed the old movie buidlings, but the mountains and desert are a beautiful sight. It can be very hot, as everything is in full sun, so bring plenty of water. The mountains surrounding the site are rainbow-striped because of the wealth of various minerals in the rock -- an incredible sight!

“Worth the effort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2008

The old/rebuilt movie set had a fire, it might have been rebuilt though.

Even if it was, it is worth your time to stop by and check out the scenery. There will be a sign off highway 89. Most maps show the area too. It is probably about 4 miles or so to get back to the movie set area.

Head east out of Kanab, probably around 20 miles or so. You will also enjoy the Vermilion Cliffs as you drive.

If the road is muddy and you don't have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, you might want to skip it.

It is very attractive scenery and not congested either.

“Beautiful mountains!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2006

The moutains here are beautiful. The dirt road is easy to drive on without a 4-wheeler. However, the old movie set burned down. The cemetery is still there. You won't believe the colors in the mountains!
