“Annual ski vacation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2014 via mobile

We've stayed here four years in a row for the annual ski vacation.
Rooms are clean and modern. Roomy, as well. The staff is attentive and efficient. Location is excellent for skiing the four major resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. An added bonus is that the front desk sells discounted ski passes for all four ski resorts.

Breakfast is always fresh and plentiful. A great way to stock up for the days' skiing. I highly recommend this hotel and will keep coming back.

Updated lobby, updated decor in a good size clean room, full kitchen in room, and complimentary hot buffet breakfast, just were a few things that were great about this hotel. Also had great service from the front desk, and the location is fantastic with beautiful mountain views and easy access to several major ski resorts. I would definitely stay here again and would refer this location to friends/family!

Liked the place a lot! Clean, homey. Very functional. We've spent many nights in other Residence Inns in the past year. We like them!
I like their breakfasts.
There was a problem w the west elevator & Taisia called the service guy right away. Was working next time we used it on Sunday morning. Taisia also made helpful recommendations about shopping places.
We could not locate a luggage cart when we were ready to lv. Alan asked Roberto to look around for the cart...to help us. In the mean time Alan came up & helped carry our stuff down. After we'd made the first trip (we brought a lot of stuff!) Roberto came by w the luggage cart! It was a good stay!

We flew in to ski and didn't rent a car, so we heavily relied on the hotel shuttle and the ski bus. The staff were exceptionally helpful with ski info and their recommendation of the Porcupine Grill was perfect!

We booked a free room at this hotel during Sundance week and at the height of ski season, so it was pretty full and busy. Our one-room suite was nice--a standard Residence Inn room--with a brand-new pull-out couch. We had a good view of the mountains out our window, and the hot tub was open despite very cold temperatures. The breakfast was good, the typical fare, and coffee and tea were available all day. The lobby has a mini-market with reasonable prices. The hotel is about a 20 minute drive from Alta/Snowbird and a 15 minute drive from Solitude. We enjoyed staying in town because of the variety of restaurants and access to grocery/drugstores. Speaking of, we enjoyed eating at the Trio restaurant next door (quite good) and Oh Mai a few miles away (Vietnamese joint--good and cheap). We would definitely stay here again. We really liked Alta in particular.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor, as cars' headlights would shine right in your window.

Thank you for staying with us. We are glad you enjoyed our proximity to the ski resorts as well as to delicious restaurants. Thank you for the tip for ground floor rooms - we do have black out curtains in each room and will double-check that they block out as much light as possible. We again thank you for staying here for your ski vacation. We look forward to hosting you again!

The hotel was recently "renovated" which should have been a plus, but our room had many issues immediately upon arrival. The main chair in the living area had a broken leg, neither of the phones were working and the kitchen pots were basically unusable. We called down and they fixed the chair the next day but none of our other requests were fulfilled. Housekeeping often times forgot to give us dish towels, soap and dishwashing detergent (basic amenities in an extended stay property in my opinion). One night we lost all hot water in the room and the front desk staff was genuinely confused and blamed it on the construction downstairs. It was reconciled the next day, but frustrating nonetheless. The worst part was the hot tub. I was in town skiing with my family and looked forward to relaxing in the hot tub after a long day. The hot tub did not look clean but I thought maybe I was imagining it because it was dark out. I got in a few days, but much to my disdain, I got a horrible rash from the hot tub that lasted about a week and a half.

Overall, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was convenient. Location was good, but the amenities in the hotel were extremely below par, especially for the price we were paying. And the hot tub issue needs to be fixed immediately. I am a certified pool operator and that is NOT acceptable in any public spa.

Thank you for providing feedback regarding your recent stay. I am certainly disappointed that your stay was not all that it could have been.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the problems you experienced in your room and at the hot tub. We have investigated the issues you experienced in your guest room and have addressed the problems with the phone and inspected all the kitchen utensils to ensure they are in good working order. The hot water problem you experienced was related to the renovation work going on at the time; the construction crew was working to repair a hot water line in a nearby room and had to shut the water off without notice. Additionally, we have corrected the chemical imbalance in our hot tub and are working closely with our pool & spa maintenance company to ensure we are properly maintaining the chemistry of the spa water.

I am pleased to announce that our renovation is now complete, and all construction crews have left. We have inspected all of our guest rooms to ensure they are properly outfitted and will meet our guests’ expectations. I hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you again as our guest now that we have finished all the work. I am confident that you will enjoy all the amenities our hotel has to offer, and that your recent experience was an exception to our high standards of hospitality and service.

Again, our sincere thanks for sharing your experience with us so that we could investigate & implement corrective action as soon as possible. If I can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact me directly. You may email me at ri.slctt.gm@marriott.com.

My son and I have been going to Utah to ski for the past 19 years. We stay at the Cottonwood Residence Inn because the accommodations are excellent and exceptionally convenient. They keep the rooms up to date (our room was recently renovated); the staff are warm, friendly, and helpful; and the breakfasts are excellent. We ski a different area each day of our stay, and the hotel offers discounted tickets and transportation to the mountain bus system. We are only 20-30 minutes from most areas. Allen Jacobson, the GM, has been very helpful and accommodating with setting up reservations. This is the best Residence Inn in my experience.

Room Tip: The second and third floor 2 bedroom suites have fireplaces, but the first floor suites are a little...
