There are not a lot of food choices on scenic and historic Route 6 from Salt Lake to I-70, so we were delighted when we arrived in this town and found the Balance Rock Eatery right on Main Street. The food was good but the restaurant owner's story was even better. She grew up in Helper, left and worked in the city. But she decided to come back, invest in her hometown and raise her family here. This is a former mining town, she said, which was once teeming with bars, restaurants, hotels and brothels. Don't miss the giant statue of the coal miner right outside the library!
