“Very nice stay”
Reviewed April 5, 2011

we had a very good time in spring last year. Motel was nearly empty because of very cold weather. Everything was clean. Desk stuff was very friendly and helpfull.
We will be there next time in July 2011.
We like to sit at the patio and having a beer in the evening.

|We were on a driving tour of southern Utah and stayed here for one night. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and recommended the restaurant at the rear of the property which turned out to be great even though itwas early in their season. The rooms were clean and I didn't notice particularily thin walls. I fell asleep easily and slept well.

As the largest and most prominent motel in Escalante, the Prospector gets a fair amount of traffic during high season. The room was clean and functional, and a good value. On the downside, the beds were a bit on the uncomfortable side. Also, our biggest complaint was that due to flimsy construction, anyone walking around outside our room (on the second floor) caused a lot of noise and shaking (and I am a sound sleeper).

Overall, there aren't a ton of choices in Escalante, and I'd stay here again (and choose it over the Padre Motel down the street). I haven't yet stayed at the Circle D, so will check into that next time.

Oh, the restaurant in back is a decent short-order style restaurant with generous portions. It can get a bit chaotic when busy, and service is in the category of "well-meaning, and family-run".

When I called to make a reservation, the nice lady asked me for my name and the dates, and nothing else, no cc, no phone #, nada. That tells you a lot about the place.

As a cheapskate, I have to mention that when I made the reservation, the price was cheaper than the other motels in Escalante, so my heart was already won from that first phone call.

The room is basic, but big. Strangely enough, it was very cool inside despite the sun shining on the motel on a 90 degree day (without the ac running). Everything was clean and nice. All of the motels in Escalante has the same advantages and disadvantages in terms of location (tiny town), so there's not much to say there. The WiFi worked well.

It's not clear where the motel is on the website, or even on GoogleMaps. It's on the main strip, so it wasn't hard to find.

All in all, it was nice, it was cheap, it was homey, and I would go back again.

The lady who runs the hotel was very friendly and was a great resource about life in the town. We stayed there several times over two weeks and found each room clean and comfortable. The restaurant at the end of the building is not run by the same people that, place is a zoo.

We stayed at this hotel not knowing what to expect. But were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was fine. Grounds were quiet even though a large old-timer group of ATV-ers were staying there. We will unhesitatingly stay here again on our next trip.

Yes it is not 5 star but it is clean, well maintained, spacious, strong internet. I have stayed there 4 times or more and have never been disappointed. I see it is two out of 4 in Escalante and am very surpprised it is not numer one.
