Flaming Gorge Resort

Flaming Gorge Lodge is a great no-frills place. The room was clean, and the service excellent. You just have to be aware when you book here, that you are 40 miles from most corporate accommodations and it's a seasonal place, so the prices are little high for a very basic room. The buildings are fairly old. Most people are only there to sleep.

We booked Flaming Gorge Lodge off a website while still in New Zealand and for some reason we thought we were coming to a resort. When we arrived it felt more like a motel complex on the edge of a trailer park. We booked a studio unit which slept 6 but only had 1 bedroom with a queen bed and a single bed. It did have a sofa sleeper and a single pull out bed in the lounge. Our children are very young so when they go to bed we like to relax in the lounge so it wasn't really suitable having just the 1 bedroom however it was adequate for 1 night. The onsite restaurant is very good and recommended.

It was our first time to Flaming Gorge Resort and we had a fabulous time. It is spring there and the grass is turning green and we were able to see a lot of wildlife. In fact there were deer just outside our window. We stayed in a Suite and it was nice and clean. The food at the restaurant was to die for and every time into the flyshop they were happy to help us. The only advice I can give is pack clothing for all type of weather. The first day we stayed was really warm and then it was much cooler the second day. We are excited to go back and we hope to go this summer so we can rent one of their rafts and float the Green River.

Warm welcome on late check-in. Very good food. Matched our requirements. Wish we had had more time to explore the surrounding countryside but the fish were calling.

This was a nice, clean place to stay in the middle of nowhere other than the lake and river. The beds were comfortable and the staff were very nice. This place caters to fishermen and outdoors folks rafting or doing things on the water. We had a motel room for 2 nights. The restaurant served good food ranging from crab legs to chicken wings. The Flyshop/store had a decent selection of incidentals. They only have beer in the restaurant and the nearest liquor store was far away so bring your own if you want a drink. I heard several folks complain about that. Don't plan on sleeping past about 0800 because everybody is up talking, slamming cardoors, and planning for a day of fishing. Above average for a fishing lodge type motel.

The Flaming Gorge Resort offers hotel and condo-like accommodations. Our party consisted of two families with three kids aged 6, 7 and 13. We stayed in one of the condos for a week. The condo has a queen & twin in the bedroom and a pullout full-size sofa with a roll-away bed and a full kitchen. Style wise the condo is not fancy, but it is comfortable and clean. We stayed on a second floor towards the back and from the balcony we could see mule deer in the field at sunset. The resort is 4 miles from some great fun including the Flaming Gorge Dam (tours are free!) and fly fishing on the Green River. We did a self guided rafting tour through the resort and if not for a surprise thunderstorm it would have been great. While the resort restaurant is good (the steak fajitas were great & they have an award winning creamy chicken asparagus soup) for our long stay we needed groceries. The 35 mile drive down to Vernal is beautiful. If you make that drive you must visit the Utah Field House Museum (turn left onto Main St., look for the Wooly Mammoth on the right). And just down the street try the Dinosaur Brew Haus, good beer and the best hamburger I ever had. The resort is definitely in a good location to explore the Flaming Gorge area by day and provides a comfortable place to sleep at night.

This place has really improved since undergoing new management a couple years ago. The new owners have put money back into the place & have begun replacing several out dated & old items. The overall look & feel of the place is great. Each year they seem to improve/replace the most necessary things. I'm glad to see that the high nightly rates are being put to some use other than just put in the owners pockets
