A totally different experience. We found a few fossils, but spend a lot less and get better stuff by stopping in a rock shop in Delta. When we were there it looked like it was time for them to drag some some material from the pits.

One of our highest priorities is to assist our customers so they are successful when they visit U-Dig quarry. The operator running the quarry is there to assist the customers. If a customer is not finding nice Trilobite specimens, I always hope they will ask the operator to come help them. Most of our customers do very well. Sorry your experience was not up to your expectations. .

Drove 1000 miles just to visit this quarry and get a few nice specimens of trilobite. E-mailed the people from the website to confirm, and was assured that they will be open. Arrived at the quarry at 8am, the time listed as they are open for business. Quarry was locked up and not a person in sight. Sat around for over an hour waiting....Nothing. Drove up to the quarry right above U-Dig Fossils, it is called A-New Dig. Jennifer, who is the owner of the property welcomed us with open arms, showed us the ropes and set us loose and charged us less then U-Digs posted rates.

Normally I am not one to post bad reviews, as I understand that people can be unhappy no matter what you do for them. But 1000 miles, 16 hour drive and you cant even be open at the hours you have listed and assured me that you would be open from... Bad business practice!

I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding with U-digs open times. I have no idea how this could have happened. U-dig has been in business for 19 years and we have never opened at 8 A.M. If you go to our web page u-digfossils.com you will see we open at 9 A.M. and this is the only time we have ever listed as our open time. The quarry was open the day you came to visit, you were just there before the U-dig operator arrived to open the quarry for the day.

From the get-go, this was an adventure for the memory books. To get to U-Dig Fossils, you must go "off road", traveling through Utah's back country - what FUN!. The gravel road was very well maintained and there were signs for the quarry along the way. Once you arrive at the quarry, you purchase your "hours" and are given buckets and pics to collect your treasures. We had a big drive ahead of us, so we could only stay about two hours. We had a grand time splitting the shale, and once you get the hang of it, you feel like a bona fide paleontologist. In two hours we were able to fill an 8X8 box. Definitely worth the drive, just ask the two 13-year-olds that were with us.

Be aware - this location is a LONG ways away from Delta with over 20 miles driven on a gravel road. We didn't have any trouble getting there in a car, but it takes a long time to get there. The travel is worth it if you enjoy geology! The person on staff at the location was extremely nice and helpful. They provide buckets, tools, and a box to take home your treasures. In just two hours of trilobite hunting, we went home with over 40 amazing samples! Be sure to bring a wide brimmed hat, lots of water, snacks, sunscreen, and wear clothes that can get very dirty. The trip is totally worth the time and effort! I would not recommend bringing young children as it is hot and dirty work. The address listed in the city of Delta is the home of the owner. They have a small shop behind their house with samples, t-shirts, etc.

Great experience, staff quite helpful. It is the best site for digging out your own trilibite fossils.
