“Surprising nice place to stay just outside Bryce Nat'l Park”
Reviewed December 5, 2009

We expected a run down place to stay considering it is at the entrance of Bryce Nat'l Park. We usually find these place nice at best. This place is new, clean, modern, beautiful decor, nice restaurant, very nice rooms, and very modern. We will stay here again on our next visit to Bryce. The staff was also very accommodating.

Since Bryce Canyon Lodge in the park closes for the winter, your closest option is in Bryce Canyon City, aka Ruby's. This is a new (probably 1 year old) Best Western on the left side of the road, across from the famous Ruby's Inn. You might actually miss the turn-off at night, since there is no sign directly on Rt 63. I was put up in the South Tower (only 4 stories). The room is bigger than most other Best Western's I've been to. Shower is hot (great for winter) and plenty of water pressure. Fridge and microwave in the room. Strong wireless G signal in the room, but throughput was only mediocre (12 to 24 Mbps right now). There does appear to be a wired ethernet connection as well, but I left my ethernet cable at home. Breakfast is served 6:30 to 9:30 buffet style. It's hot (better than some other places with only continental breakfast), includes scambled eggs, breakfast sausage, potatoes, and oatmeal, plus the usual granola, toast, and yogurt. The room will probably not accomodate everyone in the summer, but was just cozy enough for the pre-Thanksgiving crowd. Other meals have to be at the Ruby's Inn complex across the street.

Only down side: the air conditioning in the room can be noisy while it gets your room to the right temperature. The upside that outweighs everything else: only 5 minutes to the park entrance.

What a beautiful new hotel! First impression was the warm reception of the spacious lobby complete with fireplace. Room was spacious and quiet. Very quiet heater. Beds comfortable. Flat screen TV. High speed wireless internet. Double sinks in a separate room from tub and toilet. Off season price was $67.99. Breakfast buffet was expansive as noted by other reviewers. Buffet servers kept the buffet full and were prompt to clean off the tables. Front desk personnel were justifiably proud of this fine hotel.

The Best Western Hotel is near the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park. It was opened in May 2009 and the rooms are very well decorated but the three-story common area/dining room is outstanding. This may be one of the best properties in the chain at a reasonable price. It gives the feel of a luxurious mountain lodge. The breakfast was excellent but a little stale. There are two restaurants across the street at the sister motel. This definitely would be the place to stay if visiting Bryce Canyon.

As Bryce Canyon NP is my favourite place in the world, I have been here at last count 8 times, even though I come from Down Under.
I have to say this was my best visit hotel wise. Being a brand new hotel it still had that fresh feel about it. I thought the room was very spacious, even though the lighting was very minimal, this seems to be the way now with all hotels.
The breakfast was plentiful, a great way to start, especially when going for a hike into Bryce Canyon.
As I am fairly certain this was my last visit here, it was a wonderful way to finish, thank you.

We liked this hotel very much. The person who checked us in was very friendly, the room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the proximity to the park was great. The breakfast had a good variety of items and the breakfast room was large. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

we chose this hotel over Ruby's Inn because it sounded nicer. Practically speaking, they are part of the same group of hotels and restaurants, so not sure that they would be much different.

It looked new and the room was nicely decorated. No complaints about the room - they are to the "new" standards for Best Westerns. The lighting was adequate and the room large enough to be comfortable.

The hotel is quite large, and a hot breakast is served. I've been to many BWs that serve only continental breakfasts that have a better variety of breads -muffins, English muffins, bagels, waffles, pastries and donuts. Here, there was bread, some slightly stale pastries (left over from yesterday, since we had BF at 6:30 am ???) and donuts (no chocolate ones - darn !)

The other selections were better - scrambled eggs with sausage, biscuits and gravy and fried potatoes. The yogurt and granola were good, as were the smallest red grapefruits we had ever seen (smaller than oranges and only slightly larger than tangerines !) but they were sweet and delicious.

Coffee and tea, four kinds of juices and several cereals rounded out the selection. Not as good as other hotels of the same caliber, but not too bad.

The ony thing I would be wary of in the summer would be tour groups. We saw several tour buses at the Cowboy' Buffet at Ruby's Inn the previous night. And, some of them stayed at the Grand. Not to fault the tourists or the staff of the Grand, but I can only imagine how crowded it might become when everyone converges on breakfast ......

Other than the fact that there are no other restaurants around (a short drive away is the Subway), the hotel was comfortable - the bed was not too hard nor too soft, but just right ! and the lighting was adequate for using our laptops (free wireless, as is standard with most BW)

For a good night rest near Bryce Canyon, it worked out quite well for us, esp in the off season.
