“Poor Service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

We checked in to the Best Western Bryce Canyon on Friday 22nd March. On entering our room around 5pm it was obvious that it had not been cleaned and were told by reception we could wait for the cleaning to be done!! They were asked to provide another room and we were told we would have to go all the way back to reception to get the key as they were busy. After registering my surprise that they would not bring the key up to us we had to carry our luggage back to reception where a very grumpy receptionist gave us a new room in another wing, the opposite side of the hotel from our travelling companions.
We got to the new room to find the electronic keys did not work so went all the way back to reception to get new ones - this was after a day of distance travelling. The receptionist Steve said we would receive a discount on our bill.
When finally checking out the next day we were told there was no discount and only on asking for the manager did we finally get a reduction from a supervisor. She informed us that the max. Discount she could give was 20% but even after this we were still paying more than most of the other guests. Obviously their on line booking is still overcharging some clients
The staff are pretty unhelpful and this was our 2nd stay and were at times surly.

I am very sorry you had an unpleasant experience during your stay with us. It was certainly an unusual situation in that the room was not ready when you arrived, and we have addressed that issue with our staff. My understanding is that the front desk supervisor offered to have housekeeping clean the room right away so that you could stay next to your traveling companion, as they didn't have another room available in that section of the hotel.

There must have been some misunderstanding on the billing, as I reviewed the reservation and you were indeed charged 20% less than the standard price for the room due to the discount given at checkout. The online booking system is fine, and does not charge any higher than our listed prices. I apologize if you were given any different impression.

If we can be of assistance in the future, please contact us at 435-834-5770.

Sincerely,

Manager's Assistant

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel (in a 2 double beds room) in mid january 2013. The hotel has got a triangle shape with a little swimming pool and a spa pool area in the center of the triangle. The swimming pool is closed in winter but you can use the spa pool in the cold of the winter.
Our room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. The hotel has got a good quality price balance. A good breakfast is included in the price. Your are not allowed to cook in the rooms. That's why the staff at the front desk suggest you to dine out at Rubys Inn Restaurant. This restaurant is located in a superb hotel with a Far West architecture inside and outside. The restaurant is good and pleasant. The Rubys inn has got the most beautiful heritage shop I have seen during my south west USA tour. You can spend one hour and more to look for gifts (jewells, statues, necklesses, bracelets, books, mineral stones, ...) You can even buy outdoor clothes or gear and food. In winter, tourist who come from best western can use the Rubys Inn indoor swimming pool for free (for Rubys Inn is also a best western hotel). It was a great moment for my family and I because the evening of our arrival, we were alone in this very large swimming pool. We used the hot spa pool and just after we went outdoor in the cold under the falling snow flakes. And we did it again and again. It was a real pleasure.
But the very best of this Hotel is its location, only 2.5 km from the park entrance. This park is a wonder and the Hoodoos are a grandness of mother nature.

Room Tip: If you want a good view, don't choose a room wich overlook the swimming pool and spa pool outdoo...

The hoodoos in the Park really are awesome! There's also no place on earth where there are so many hoodoos as you see in Bryce Canyon. It's great that you were able to stay with us during your visit to the area. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and were able to take advantage of the indoor pool and hot tub at Ruby's Inn.

We appreciate your comments and hope to have you visit again! If we can be of assistance in the future, please contact us at 435-834-5770.

I will admit, there are not many hotel choices near Bryce Canyon, but even so, this hotel would be one of my top choices out of many I have stayed in. We went early in the season and received a great rate on a two-night stay with complimentary breakfast buffet each morning. The lobby was very warm and inviting, and has a nice fireplace and very unique furniture. The staff was great, and we were greeted with a friendly "Hi!" and a smile each time we bumped into any of the staff. Our room was very large, clean, and well-appointed, and seemed like it was brand new. The only drawbacks to this hotel, in my opinion, were the size of the queen beds (very small) and the noise in the hallway, which subsided later in the evening and did not interfere with sleeping. This will be our first choice whenever we visit Bryce Canyon.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor toward the end of the hall.

One of the best and cleanest hotels I have stayed in for awhile! Pleasantly surprised to discover they upgraded our standard room to a suite at no extra charge! This room was a great size for my family! The gal at the front, a younger gal with shorter blonde hair and an accent (didnt catch her name) was fabulous! She was friendly and cheerful! There was another lady as well, an older woman at the desk who was a tad snarly, but the younger gal was great! Rooms were clean and was surprised to find the floor a bit damp when we got to our room...they steam clean the floors after guests checkout...nice knowing my kids weren't playing around on nasty carpet! Lots of nice sanitization procedures in place at this hotel, which I appreciate! Hot and cold breakfast buffet was awesome! The eggs tasted a but funny, but everything else was wonderful! Tons of friendly staff on hand manning the buffet, refilling items as they got low, etc... We were here in the off season, so that may be why everything was so perfect, but for $89 per night, with the room we were upgraded to and the awesome breakfast buffet I feel like we got a steal! We will definitely stay here when we come back again and will most definitely give a glowing recommendation to our friends and family! Thanks for an enjoyable and comfortable two nights!

I love this review! I'm glad to hear we got just about everything perfect for you! Cleanliness and comfort are both vital to providing a good experience for our guests. It sounds like Oana checked you in, she's one of our valued supervisory team members. The breakfast buffet is great, and if you consider the money that would otherwise be spent for breakfast, a really good value.

This is a solid four star hotel.

We had a great stay here. Since it is *freezing* in Bryce right now (it’s “low season”), the hotel must have had extra rooms and gave us a free upgrade. (Thanks nice front desk people!) We had a very spacious room that also included a coffee maker and microwave. The room comes with free hot breakfast and that was amazing! Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, donuts, waffles, you name it. Yum!
