Description: Opening for the season on March 17, 2017 Blake and Jen serve fresh organic food that comes directly from their own 6.5 acre Boulder farm for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything we offer is handmade, even our hot sauce and jam! Our beef and lamb is grass-fed and finished and comes from a local rancher. We have children's menus available for all three meals. We're deeply committed to our farm to table ethos and to serving delicious place-based cuisine in a beautiful and casual setting. We offer a curated selection of sustainably produced wines and a full bar with craft cocktails. We also are able to offer food to go, if you are just driving on through!

One of two amazing restaurtants in this tiny town. The best breakfast in town and a fantastic dinner. Make reservations as they do fill up. The jenchiladas are my favorite. Also their soups...decadent and delicious. If you are in town, you will be going back and forth between here and the joint next door, loving every meal. Enjoy!

The Hell's Backbone Grill (HBG) is a bucket list restaurant. You have to go there at least once in your gastronomical life. And there's a mystery here too: how did 2 Buddhist sisters end up opening an upscale restaurant in one of the most out-of-the-way small towns in Utah? And how did they get the mostly Mormon town fathers to grant them a liquor license and the grizzled local ranchers to raise the beef in the Buddhist tradition?

You'll just have to come to the HBG and find out for yourself. Except getting there is another mystery, yet it's also half the fun - traveling the back roads of south eastern Utah to the little 'town' of Boulder. But what a treat - the drive, either from the south via Escalante, UT or from the north via Torrey, UT and Capital Reef National Monument is extraordinary. Just like the food.

We've gone there a number of times and found people from as far away as NYC who'd flown into Salt Lake City, rented a car and then struck out for the HBG. If you like hiking, jeeping or mountain biking then so much the better because Boulder is in the heart of Utah's canyon country and the HBG is the heart of Boulder.

Check out their website for a look at the menu. But beware, this is a seasonal operation not open in the winter.

HBG is highly rated by Zagat and Fodor. Put it on your bucket list. Eat at the Hell's Backbone Grill and you'll think you've died and gone to Heaven.

Hell's Backbone Grill is located in a lovely quiet setting in rural Utah and the people who run it take full advantage of their surroundings. They use locally sourced organic and free range products to create lovely meals in a very relaxed homey space. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week for about eight or nine months of the year, then close for the off season. The meals are unpretentious but nicely arranged, and are often garnished with locally grown edible flowers. For breakfast you can expect organic oatmeal or free range eggs, and dinner features both meat oriented and vegetarian choices and a reasonably good wine list. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

In the middle of glorious Escalante National Monument area, is an award-winning restaurant that you would not expect to find in what seems to be a remote Mormon community. Hell's Backbone Grill features the very best in local, organic fare - or should I say "cuisine." The food is divine, from breakfasts featuring homemade jams and potato cakes decorated with edible nasturtiums to evening entrees topped off with a nice selection of wines and desserts (do not miss the decadent gingerbread option). Owners Blake and Gen are often on site, chatting with customers and making certain that everyone is more than comfortable in such a delightful setting (rough hewn timber inside, prayer flags and sparkle lights adorn the entrance). This place is magic - especially in the Autumn months when trees begin to change color and tourism in the area is less busy. Save time for spectacular hiking, as well, and stay at nearby Boulder Mountain Lodge. Hell's Backbone Grill is one of the best kept secrets anywhere. Don't miss it!!!

Amazing, a great restaurant in a town of 200 in the midst of fabulous natural beauty. Wonderful menu featuring the Backbone's own farm raised organic vegetables and locally (mostly) sourced organic meats. The service was excellent and the wine list has improved over the years. We eat there whenever we are in Boulder to hike or just passing through to the wonders of SW Utah's canyons.
